To be clear, the house was in dire need of a paint job, and had a decent amount of wood rot. This was a difficult job to a) complete and b) price out. In fact, I solicited multiple bids, and while Final Coat wasn’t the least expensive, I had great faith in their ability to get the job done well while treating me fairly. I made a great choice. Ted and his team finished on time, and the final job was done extremely well and professionally. Even better, my gut instinct that they would treat me fairly was validated. They uncovered a few items after they started the work that would require a little more budget. They communicated these to me, explained what was going on and why it was necessary. However, there was one item that slipped through the cracks, and Final Coat called me and worked through a solution we were both happy with. At the end of the day, I received a great final product, on time at a fair price. I couldn’t really ask for more than that. They are responsive, and treat their customers well. I would use them again and recommend to friends and family. My home dates back to the 1920’s and showed signs of many years of wear and build up of paint. The build up of paint in some areas resembled alligator skin. I wanted to remedy the peeling and alligator skin build up without loosing the character and charm that original wood siding gives an older home. I headed to the Internet and was fortunate to come in contact with The Final Coat. I was quickly setup with an appointment for an assessment of my project. I met with The Final Coat owner/manager Ted Wetzel. Upon a timely arrival, Ted started to inspect the exterior of my home and at same time asked me questions about my expectations for the project. I expressed my desire to deal with the years of paint build up and damaged areas of the homes exterior. I was presented with a large knowledge of different products and methods to combat issues with the exterior paint conditions of my home. Upon coming to an understanding of my goal and what it would take to reach it, Ted quoted me a fair price. The amount of surface prep and man-hours associated with doing a professional job correlated to the quoted price. I am a veteran and first time homeowner who had recently relocated to the area. I would not be able to afford his services, but was against trying to shop for a potentially lower priced unprofessional company that would throw up paint without the necessary preparation to ensure a good lasting final product. Rather than giving me a quote and running off to the next job, Ted discussed potential solutions for me to achieve my goal. I took on the project myself and with the professional opinion and advice finished my project. I have a new found respect for the proper exterior preparation and painting of a home. The project consisted of rehabilitating wooden siding, shutters and deck. Our house was built in 1942 and is an English Tudor Cottage style with a brick first floor and mostly wormy chestnut wooden siding above. Some of the wood was rotted or dried out, warped and cracked. The first stage of the project was a careful review with the company's carpenter and consultation about what could be done to save what could be saved and replace that which couldn't. Once carpentry repairs were completed all seams were carefully caulked and two coats of solid stain were applied to the house and one coat to the deck. Each day began with a consultation about the work intended for the day and we received a written summary at the end of each work day that listed what was accomplished, what was planned for the next day, and the total man hours invested so far. The company's personnel were careful of our property and respectful. They made sure we understood any unexpected issues that were found and agreed with the recommended actions before those issues were addressed. They took special care to find a color match on the deck for a semitransparent stain that was already present on the deck floor.
