**Q: NEW but bland dining nook and living room** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hoping you can help me with ideas to make our new house more homey. Open concept (maybe TOO open for some) so everything needs to tie together. Sectional stays and would prefer to keep the buffet as it was my grandmother's. I have several pillow inserts but haven't pulled the trigger on buying fabric to cover them. Feel free to share any navy, light blue, grey, green, or yellow fabrics you think would look good! 
Might eventually do inside mount bamboo blinds but prefer the openness of nothing right now. My biggest hang up is the dining nook. It feels lacking, but with such a big light, I can't figure out what would look best. 
Cant wait to see what you suggest! I've been lurking on this page since moving in a few weeks ago, and I must say--it's so much friendlier and welcoming than some of the other forums!

A: Great to see another person thinking round!  A round painting might add a distinctive quality to that dining nook.  You might configure an installation of different sized round paintings.

**Q: Blank wall in Dining room** *(in Design Dilemma)*

What to do with this large blank wall and suggestion for new lighting over table

A: As I read through this blizzard of comments - many excellent suggestions to explore!  I'm wondering what your sense of artwork is?  That wall calls for something visual, an idea.  Furniture can be wonderfully expressive, but there is nothing like artwork to engage the mind, eye and heart.  I loved the idea of a grouping of plates.  You might also wish to consider tondo artwork.  A piece like this would complement the metals already in the room, and respond dynamically to all the ambient light.  My professional opinion is that when purchasing artwork, you do not need to try to "match" it to the space.  Match it to your heart first and foremost.  (This piece is 36" diameter.)

**Q: Wall  space over couch dilemma-** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Okay- making progress- took suggestion from one of you and painted walls Navajo white. Much better. Only thing staying for sure in this room are couch, table, and two brown martini chairs- rest is optional- what would look good above couch ?? Is a mirror my best option?

A: Lucidos and Beverly are on a similar wavelength.  If you go with art instead of a mirror, I would choose something that echoes the curves in the couch.  A round panel that emphasizes the opulence of the other pieces might work.  The gilded ground here will also interact with all the ambient light.  This one is 18k gold with oil paint, "Dahlia".

**Q: Need advice for this livingroom** *(in Design Dilemma)*

i have been trying to figure out what to do with this space. anyone has good idea?

A: I like Diane's idea of arranging the couches to face each other.  They have a lovely curvaceous quality: why not echo that with artwork on the big wall that also brings curving into the mix?  Here are a couple of ideas...Ancient Wind, 48" diameter, oil with 23k gold on panel.
Sea Calls to the Sky, 20" diameter, oil with 12k gold, dyed Dutch gold and copper on prepared paper, 37"x30" overall, framed.

**Q: Mixing metals** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I just found this bar cart and I really love it and need the storage. I am in the process of styling it and need to mix the chrome on the cart with the brass on the fireplace. I have other chrome pieces elsewhere as well as stainless steel appliances. I also need light on this side of the room and was considering a lamp. Perhaps the lamp should have some brass?  Except for the tray and bottles that would need to be there any suggestions for styling? Or does it just not work. I can take it back. That is why the tag is still attached. Lol!

A: You probably have enough suggestions to make your eyes cross!  I like what ritting28 suggested and add this humbly.  If you pick up the "echo" of metallics through artwork, you might create a hum that has metallics as it's melody, floating through the entire room.  Here's a visual suggestion that has 12k gold on top and aluminum on the bottom.  Other mixes are possible!

**Q: Living room suggestions** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have been in our new home for just over two years. We love the layout and the fixtures and furniture all look like together. The issue we have is adding a pop of colour! We can't seem to find the perfect one. Maybe it's not a colour... Maybe it's a piece... Any suggestions would be appreciated!

A: What a wealth of suggestions you have to consider.  I concur that artwork over the fireplace is an ideal way to add color to this room.  Here are 2 suggestions:
Dahlia, 40" diameter, oil with 18k gold and palladium on panel.  

Other Crossing, 20" diameter, oil with aluminum and 23k gold on panel.
