Should we replace with glass subway tile? A: It is busy. I think something simple would be better. A true white glass subway would work. I think a glass subway would be better than a ceramic. True White 3 x 6 subway **Q: Help me choose countertops!** *(in Kitchens)* We have traveled a journey from planning to replace existing (brown, speckled) laminate with a marble-look laminate, to now considering quartz. We will be installing a blanco sigranite sink in truffle, which is the main factor limiting the countertop color (cabinets are white; backsplash will be white; wall paint can change). Here are the finalists: top - LG Viatera in Nimbus (features chunks of clear stone embedded in quartz) middle - Caesarstone in raw concrete (honed) bottom - Silestone in eternal - serenaI've searched GW and Houzz for comments & reviews. The honed raw concrete quartz seems to be the riskiest (difficulty cleaning), but it's the closest match to the sink. DD loves the nimbus; Bling! DH prefers the silestone... I am fine with any of them. The breakfast nook features beadboard, and the cabinets have shaker-style doors, so I don't want to go ultra modern. We have schoolhouse lights going in over the sink and in the breakfast nook, and industrial-style pendants (Hinkley Amelia in aged zinc) over the peninsula. Help me narrow the selection! A: I like the Nimbus, have you thought about what backsplash you are going to do? That will come into play as well with the selection of color......... **Q: tile backsplash behind stove dilemma** *(in Remodeling)* I am installing 3/4 inch tile as a backsplash behind my range. My stove sits almost flush to the wall and if I were to install the backsplash behind the stove it would make the range stick out from the cabinets. Should I have the tile installed around the slide in stove?The vent in the back of the stove is above the surface. Thanks! A: It is normal to go down behind the stove a couple of inches. That way if the stove does need replaced and is not an exact fit you would be covered. Or at least keep an extra couple of sheets and grout to be able to fix later. **Q: What color caulk to use between stainless and dark granite** *(in Design Dilemma)* Just finished tiling my white tile backsplash. Going to use white grout and white caulk for the tiled section, but not sure what color caulk to use for the stainless sheet behind the cooktop. Not a huge fan of clear. Advice requested. ignore the splatter - just made some bacon :) A: A clear silicone would be best **Q: White Glass Subway Backsplash for Kitchen** *(in Remodeling)* My new kitchen has BM Chantilly Lace White shaker cabinets, built in wall oven and microwave and a gas cooktop with Cambria quartz Swanbridge faux marble countertop. I like glass subway but do not like the classic 3x6 size. So here is my dilemma. I am thinking of doing 3x12 white glass staggered but behind the cooktop I want white glass herringbone. If I go with 3x12 staggered what size do you use behind the cooktop for the herringbone? Can I use 3x12 for herringbone? Usually herringbone aren't that wide I believe. Would it look weird if I do 3x12 staggered and use a different size for the herringbone? My cooktop and range hood are both 36 inches wide. What size is this herringbone by the way? A: Some dimension would be good. Herringbone larger than a 3 x 6 will be awkward with a lot of cuts. Check out this ceramic that offers dimension to the tile.
