**Q: Spec** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is this a spec house? It looks like a spec house

A: This is not a spec home, it was built for a lovely couple with two small children. They moved in about 5 days after this photo shoot and love it! We can't wait to see their Christmas pictures. Thank you for asking.

**Q: Wood stairs help! How to??** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are building new, and our framer needs to know what kind of floor we will be using on the stairs. Talk about stressful decision! I thought I would have a few more months to consider this.

Anyhow, I decided on hardwood stairs with white risers. We are using engineered hickory for the rest of the house, and there was no stair treads to be sold with it, or trim pieces. That leaves us with the hardwood stair treads decision. 

Now, what is the best way to do this? Do we buy prefinished stair treads? Unfinished and bother with the staining, finishing, etc, hardwood floor pieces and use a router saw on the edges (as a friend suggested)??

I have an idea of what I want, but not idea of it it is achievable without ripping our hair out. We will most likely be doing it ourselves with help from friends

A: Your framer doesn't need to know any of that, he is only concerned about tread thickness so he can cut the stair stringers at the correct height. Do you have a contractor you are working with or are you trying to general contract this yourself?

**Q: Should the front porch roofline be the same as the roofline?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Please Help!  Our house is being built with a shed roof over the front porch instead of a gable.  Yes, I did agree to this because our builder, who is a great guy, said it will look really good.  

I'm a visual person and can't find any pictures of any houses with a shed roof like this one, so even though I'm told it will look good, I'm having a hard time accepting it.  

My vision was to have a gabled roof over the front porch with the V shaped timbers for that lodgy look on this soon to be craftsman style home.  

Please tell me if this is okay or this is bad.  I don't know what to do, do I ask to remove it and put up a gabled roof, leave it as is, or maybe you have some other ideas to share.  What do you think?  Please help....
