## Community Q&A

**Q: Kitchen Reveal Pics! White, Black, Marble, Wood, Brass, Soapstone** *(in Remodeling)*

These are shots of a kitchen being used in a real world (messy house with a new baby, painting not hung up yet). I wanted to post this in case it helps someone, as I know Houzz helped me enormously during my remodel. If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask, and if you need more pictures let me know!

A: The best thing about the kitchen is you were able to fit your personality in it! Wonderful job! So happy you were not afraid to mix and match fixtures and finishes; and add pops of color along the way. I see a gorgeous view out the window and also a pretty cozy fireplace in the living room! Enjoy!

**Q: Question on paint palette to warm up Agreeable Gray** *(in Paint)*

I've decided to paint my room in Sherwin Williams agreeable gray. But after painting the entire room it looks too cold, sterile and clinical. It does not help that there is a white ceiling and fluorescent tube lights in the room.
I have not yet decided on a trim color or an accent color. It must be a Sherwin Williams paint and it must hide dust. Although I love white trim, I don't clean well enough to keep it looking good. I would love to bring in some coppery, burnt orange colors but I am very bad about picking paint colors.
Do I need to start all over with a different wall color? Or can I somehow save this?

I am also open to yellows or a red tone. Anything to make it less like a Doctor's office...more warm and cozy.

A: Hi Robin, no need to repaint a newly painted room! Sherwin Williams has an online tool that you can see all the colors on a wall to try them out, so does Benjamin Moore (just to get ideas.) Think about adding accents in the coppery, orange tone like in this photo. Also add natural elements for some color and life such as real floor plants. Once you add layers back into the room the starkness will disappear! Good luck! I used your agreeable gray for the walls and snowbound for the trim in this photo.

**Q: Paint color for front door** *(in Paint)*

Help me decide what I should paint my front door. Tried 'urbane bronze' from Sherwin Williams (right door) and not in love. Just trying to find a color that works with the stone. The rest of the exterior is the light gray vinyl siding you see.

I'm thinking maybe blue or red? Trying to stick with Sherwin Williams. Dark blue or like a robin's egg blue? Burgundy? Help!!!

A: You may want to power wash the stone and stairs before choosing a color that looks best. Then I would pick a color that matched a bit of the stone, maybe a blue or green. I agree with Beverly that the lighting and change of color to the stone would help your eyes in deciding what looks best. Sometimes we think changing the easiest thing will make all the difference, when it really could be the bigger picture. Good luck!

**Q: I'm Crazy - I know! Please help me furnish LR/Den/Kitchen within 3 wks** *(in Home Decorating)*

I keep losing posts - So I will post photos separately. Long Story - Short --- Change of plans: My daughter will be getting dressed for her wedding with the bridal party in our home in less than 4 weeks. We are also hosting the after-party the next day for 60ish people. I need to furnish LR/Den/Kitchen before then including 3 area rugs. No time for custom anything, I won't put anything on the walls.

I desperately need your design/decorating eyes to pull this off. I would like 2 sofas facing each other in the Den and then 2 Armchairs (with backs high enough to lean back) facing the TV. I also want to find 2 ottoman/poofs/bench seat at other end for extra seating . I also think I should get a round 60" kitchen table with 6 chairs -- AND if possible - 4 coordinating island stools . My LR and Den are open to each other and maybe I can find something to go there too. I will also rent tables and chairs for outside, but may need to bring some folding chairs in also .

My den size is 15'4" wide by 17'8" long. Kitchen area is 10' wide Living room with fireplace is a little more than 17' square room

A: I did a search, and from what I can tell there is a new Homesense store in Long Island. They are owned by TJ Maxx and HomeGoods, but it's a bigger store in general. You can find quick buys there and possibly return them after if you're not satisfied. They have chairs, rugs, some couches, décor, fake plants, everything! You have great taste and I'm sure anything you pick out will fit great in that space. You know that you want rugs, couch, chairs... add coffee table, throw pillows, and special touches of vases with fresh flowers and picture frames of family memories to add to the special events that will be happening. Good luck!

**Q: Secret 60x5 ft room discovered - what to do?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello everyone - random one for a Friday…
I live in an end of terrace flat in a period property in London, owning the basement and ground floor. I have had an amazing discovery. I moved in a few months ago, and my solicitor sent me a note to say check the wall in the basement (currently my lounge) as the land registry plans are different to my current floor plan
I have discovered two 30ftx5ft under pavement vaults ( used to store coal etc back in early 1900s) that are connected to the lounge, the door of which was bricked/plastered over in the 1950s. - I am yet to break through, currently drilled a hole and put an endoscope through to explore..
but i expect it to look like this
http://www.stonehousebasements.co.uk/Pictures/Basements/VaultsCS2\_1.jpg

I am now sitting on about a potential 300sq foot to create something amazing out of.
Couple of questions:
1\) Has anyone any experience with the renovation of under pavement vaults? I know it needs damp proofing and a pump adding.
2\) I need ideas of what on earth to do with all this space??
At current property prices the house is about £800 sqfoot, so if I half due to basement and no windows there is a potential £120,000 of value so i could put a decent budget into the creation.
Would love to be bombarded with ideas/thoughts if you have any
cheers

A: Wow what a great project! We will follow you on Instagram too!
