> These guys! Where do I begin...They saw me through a very difficult project and from day 1 they were attentive and professional. The challenges were many but this company was always very responsive no matter what the city threw at us. Before hiring this company, I was in a rut for six years with a "permit consulting" firm. I was warned early on to hire an architect and let the architectural firm handle the permitting process, because it will go faster and smoother, but I thought certainly a permitting consulting firm would be able to push our permits through faster. I could not have been more mistaken. Once I hired ECCO to take over, the process moved lightening fast. They managed everything from resources to dealing with the city permitting office. Thank you all so much. I live in California and my project is in Washington state. Most of our communication was through email. These guys are consummate professionals! Do not hesitate to hire them.

## Community Q&A

**Q: would this front door fit in with my french country decor? love it!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Glad you like it!

**Q: Recreate this look for less?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Trying to recreate a look like this picture for my living room. If you know of where I can find any of these items (or close to them) it would be helpful. The rug in particular seems to be hardest to find! Thanks!

A: If you're a consumer who isn't looking to hire a designer, I suggest you look into sites like Overstock and Wayfair. Other designers might cringe when they read this because you always take a risk when buying something you can't see in person.

As a designer, I like to purchase from reputable local dealers with whom I deal with often and have a working relationship. That way, if something goes wrong (project scheduling, delivery, installation), I, as a professional, have a relationship with the dealer and can make adjustments when necessary.

But I understand - believe me! As a consumer, I've bought furniture online and have had good and not-so-good experiences. Reading reviews are helpful but let's face it, you're still taking a risk since returning large pieces can be a pain.

I found a couple of arm chairs with the same look as the Elle Decor photo. I really like the low profile seat - gives a traditional style arm chair a contemporary flair. You have great taste!

Sometimes, you can see a company name on the page detailing the piece of furniture; you can further your search using any information you can find on these websites.

Let's not forget looking at places like Crate & Barrel and West Elm. You can shop online and if you see something you like, trek out to your nearest store. Good luck!

**Q: This color** *(in Photo Questions)*

It says it is robin's egg blue.....
This looks like just the right color for me. Does anyone have any idea how I can get this exact color?

A: I'm glad it was for you! Don't forget to "like" us :)

**Q: kitchen lighting** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Have 8 ft ceilings and some recessed lighting. Want to replace ceiling fan on one end and replace existing ceiling light. Galley style kitchen with no island. Please help

A: Yes - lighting is so important! It would be great if you posted some photos of your space.

**Q: Can you tell me where I may find this siding? Thanks** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: It's probably Hardi Board. I browsed through the Hardi board website and found this. I tried to copy the URL but it only takes you to the search page.

http://www.jameshardie.com/gallery/main.html

On the right hand side of the page, click on the vertical siding and check all the boxes except stucco. The house is in the middle row, second to the right. The house is definitely not something we would design (ours would be prettier:), but the siding looks pretty similar.

I took a snapshot of the webpage. Hope this helps!

**Q: What can I do with this room...clean slate?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

The walls are desert tan, the floors are a medium brown and I'm ready to start adding furniture and accessories, rugs, lamps. Need some help. Tuscany house. Neutral taste. Drape colors tones picture. Cathedral ceilings. Love to lighten it up. Thanks!

A: What a great room! It's interesting that it's Tuscany. There's a certain Art Deco quality to your fireplace. Is it a painted faux finish? If you're happy with the quality of the finish, you can definitely work around it.

Something to keep in mind - a fireplace should have a mantel shelf. It's a great place to showcase art or photos. I would go for something simple, probably in a dark finish - http://www.mantelsdirect.com/bedford.html.

As to your question - fireplace or furniture first: I always think about seating when it comes to space planning. Why don't you browse sofas and post your favorites. You can go from there.

Will there be a tv in here or is this a pure sitting room?
