Poor Customer Service and Communication > From the beginning, the company’s customer service has been unresponsive and unreliable. During the first order, after the representative came to take all the measurements and help select the material, he forgot which material was chosen when the order was placed. The installation of the first awning was delayed by several weeks with little to no proactive communication. > > 2\. Inconsistent Installation and Poor Workmanship > When it came time to install the second awning, the salesperson explained clearly how it would be installed to match the first one. However, the installation crew did not follow the same method, resulting in a visible gap between the two awnings, through which sun light now enters. > Additionally, the two awnings are not level, giving an uneven and unprofessional appearance. > > 3\. Manufacturing Defect and Lack of Accountability > One of the awnings was installed with the wrong screw, causing it to shift out of position and become badly deformed. The company later admitted that the factory used the wrong screw, but despite acknowledging their mistake, they have been unable to repair it for over eight weeks. > Every two weeks, I receive another excuse for why they cannot come to fix their own error. When they finally came, they still did not bring the correct screw, even though I had sent photos and detailed information about the problem in advance. > > 4\. Unresolved Damage > Due to the faulty screw, the awning frame is now damaged. Love the moodiness of this room! A: The color is BM 2116-30 Cabernet :) Not sure on the finish. Our scoop of this project was the custom bedding. **Q: Window redesign...** *(in Design Dilemma)* We really need new windows before next winter and would like to change the look of the top three windows, specifically. We have updated the interior with craftsman style 3-panel doors and trim and would like to carry that to the exterior as well. I was thinking we should lower and lengthen the windows and then add a thicker trim around them, but I'm really not sure. I want it to be updated and my style, but not stand out too much in our neighborhood, which is pretty plan and the reason we painted the house gray to begin with Does anyone have any ideas of what we could do to change the look, but not break the bank? My husband is reluctant because he really wants to keep the period look of our house, but I am sick of living with single paned, rotting windows, most of which do not even open. So I won. We are choosing between the Marvin Integrity and the Milgard Essence. I'm leaning towards the Milgard because they do not upcharge for the Douglas Fir interior, which would match our floors (original vertical grain fir). We will be staining the wood on the inside (not painting.) Our window guy is saying that he doesn't like the inserts that Milgard provides for replacement windows. Something about them being clunky and sticking out. Marvin does a better job on this in his opinion. BUT Marvin charges more than I want to pay for their Douglas Fir interiors. One other consideration is that Milgard has a lifetime warranty and I don't think that is true of Marvin. Question 1: Do I choose the better window (Marvin) with the pine or stick with the ok window with lifetime warranty (Milgard) to get the Doug Fir? Question 2: Opinions on which hardware finish is the most original looking? I'm leaning toward oil rubbed bronze. Thanks! A: Hi there, Marvin Windows are by far the best option. Their weather-sealing is superb. Keep in mind their warranty applies only if you have the windows installed by a certified Marvin installer (many contractors hold this certification). Special training on installation is required because even the best window will fail if installed incorrectly. Choose quality and go with Marvin, and make sure your installer is certified. Windows are too pricey to be replaced multiple times. If you want a very specific stain color, have a custom mix made. You won't regret spending the extra coin on this part of your home. I would like to paint it a soft light blue and then put granite on my bathroom counter top that coordinates. I want colors that won't date quickly. I have plantation shutters and high ceilings. You want a good slope on the awning to extend the life of the fabric; and doing so puts you above the gutter in order to clear the doorway.
