> First I want to say that the office staff in Madison were all very nice people and were great to work with. Unfortunately I can't say the rest of our experience was quite as good. It all started off pretty well, they were responsive to calls and questions and Greg, the owner, spoke with me and came out to try to understand what we wanted early on. The problems started after they began running behind on our relatively large and what I considered expensive project. We could tell they started rushing to complete the work and it started showing toward the end. We were supposed to get a specified amount of mulch in all of the new beds, which never happened despite having them come back out three additional times to add more. It was also clear they had a few workers on their crew who weren't as diligent at planting plants as the rest since at least 20-25% of the plants died within a 6 month period. They did come out to replace the dead plants after about 9 months; unfortunately the gentleman who came out replaced two living trees that were trees we really wanted, with two trees we didn't want, and left some of the dead plants in place. Finally, after a year passed, they came back to replace the remaining dead plants and the two incorrect trees. Two weeks after replacing one of the trees, it was dead again and despite sending text messages to the project manager, I never got a response. After looking at how the plants/trees that died were planted, I wasn't surprised as they were half buried in holes that were too small with mulch pushed up against them to make it look like they were planted correctly. We wound up replacing the trees at our own cost and they seem to be thriving now. Lastly, they added a few new zones to my sprinkler system but when they put the box into the front yard, they pushed it too far down which flattened out the PVC pipes and caused a crack in the pipe by the solenoid, which I didn't find until months later.
>
> They did do some things well, but I would not recommend them and will not use them again for future landscape needs. Hence the solid C grade.

**Comment from Southern Scape, LLC:**

> Mr. Toth - First off, I would very much like to apologize for any frustration that you experienced with us. We truly want all of our clients to be more than happy at the end of a project and I can assure you a C- is far from 'ok' on our end! I know you worked with Greg, which is actually one of our project sales folks. As the General Manager I am always trying to step in when I become aware of any situations to make sure we as a company are doing everything we can to make our clients happy. Unfortunately, this is the first I have heard of your frustrations - I know it may be too little too late, but you are more than welcome to give me a call at our office 256.746.1001 and talk me through the good and bad of your experience. I very much want continually be working on getting better as a company. Also, if you want to email me directly (denny@southernscape.com) your receipt on any plant material you had to purchase yourself to replace dead plants that we installed, I will be happy to reimburse you. Thank you for your comment and review. - Denny Langston, General Manager.

> Southern Scapes installed zoysia sod for me in june 2017 and within one month the sod started sprouting wonderful crabgrass and dying in large areas, an email to Greg Cogin was handed off to Luke who didn't respond to the issues. I called and spoke to Denny who tap danced around the issue and said he would contact Greg to see if there could be some sort of resolution, Greg did not respond. Avoid Southern Scapes for sod installation, they will not respond to issues and you'll be out your money. I won't have any problem spreading the word to family and friends of this negative experience.

> Southern Scape has performed poorly at best and have been terminated. Although they were paid for the last month of the contract, they have not performed since they were notified their contract would not be renewed. Prior to signing the contract with them, we walked the entire project area and discussed specific areas which Sothern Scape agreed were within the scope of the contract and that they would accomplish. It was like pulling teeth to get them to perform to minimal standards. To make it worse, certain plants were not sprayed to prevent infestation as included in the contract and they proposed charging us to remove said plants. Recommend no one hire this firm!! You will be sorry!!

**Comment from Southern Scape, LLC:**

> I truly hate to hear this! I am also extremely surprised as we pride ourselves in workmanship and customer service. I very much would appreciate a few minutes of your time to discuss so that I can learn exactly what we need to work on as a company. Which property are you with? I'd like to know so that I can look into this situation directly. Please contact me at your earliest convince (256.701.0499) Thank You! - Denny Langston, General Manager
