Founded in 1987 by Jack McKernon and Kevin Birchmore, The McKernon Group was built on a commitment to quality craftsmanship and custom building excellence. Over the years, our name has become synonymous with prestige, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Every McKernon-built project is a testament to the pursuit of perfection and timeless design.

In 2007, Justus Cameron joined the team. Justus graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a BS in construction management. His addition to the team brought a fresh vision and expertise to the Group. When Jack retired in 2011, Justus stepped into the role of owner/partner alongside Kevin, continuing the legacy of exceptional craftsmanship. With Kevin’s retirement at the end of 2024, Justus became the sole owner, steering the company forward.

Under Justus’s leadership, The McKernon Group will continue to uphold the standard of excellence it’s known for, while embracing new technologies, innovative techniques, and sustainable building practices.

Our headquarters are located in a McKernon restored antique barn in Brandon, Vermont. Under one roof our skilled team includes an in-house architect, master carpenters, and expert cabinetmakers. We also take pride in our specialized divisions—Green Earth Energy, which focuses on solar power and heat pumps, and Urethane Foam Operations, our spray foam insulation division—ensuring we meet the evolving needs of modern construction.

> A renovation project including a garage and family room addition was completed with significant quality issues.  Additional defects have appeared long term including a substantial crack in the foundation of the garage as well as major leaks in the breezeway roof which had to eventually be completely replaced. Also, an entire room of beadboard paneling has knot holes showing through the paint requiring an entire reprinting of two rooms.

> We have a camp on a lake in NY.  The property has two homes which were both in need of major repair.  Our first cabin we used a local craftsman, he was good, but was not done in a timely manner and had to come back for a lot of finishes.  When we decided to redo our "main" house we chose McKernon and it was the best decision we made.  The builders started on time and the project was completed on date agreed upon in the contract.  The site was always clean and orderly.  The craftsmanship in the cabinetry was top notch. I really can't say enough for the company and employees.  If I was going to build again, I would hesitate to call upon them.

A: Sorry for the delay.  It was chosen by a decorator so I have not been able to get that information for you.  They don't seem to have a record of it.

A: Thanks, we love this barn too!  The stain is Cabot's 'Burnt Hickory'.  The manufacturer of the standing seam is Ideal and the color is 'Matte Black'.
