They make the design." This quote by Charles Eames personifies Shapiro & Company's mantra in fulfilling our vision for our home. We were honored to work with Brad Shapiro as we watched our dream become a reality, on time and on budget. His creativity, knowledge, and experience enhanced our design. He arrived as our architect and left as our friend. Our time with Shapiro & Company began and ended with a Five Star experience. > > Pam and Hugh Boone **★★★★★ — mpshivers, Feb. 2016** > We had a great experience working with Brad Shapiro to create the plans for our new construction home. He brought many great ideas to the table and was always willing to listen to our thoughts. He was able to ask the right questions to develop a plan of how we live as a family with young children versus how we will live once our children are grown. With his guidance and expertise, we were able to build a beautiful home that is highly functional. We strongly recommend Shapiro and Company. **★★★★★ — Jeri Moskovitz, Feb. 2016** > We found Brad to be extremely pragmatic in his approach. Brad was willing to listen to our desires and appropriately provided his insight where changes or modifications were necessary. He was excellent in not having any wasted space and was easily accessible when we had questions. He is highly respected in Memphis both for his professionalism and for his infectious personality. **★★★★★ — palmer7290, Feb. 2016** > I have been following the career of Brad Shapiro since the 1980’s. Ever since his beginnings up to the present, the following traits have continued to describe him: imaginative, artistic, professional, passionate about his craft, flexible, great personality, problem solver, understands the entire process – not just his expertise, and meets deadlines. I have done business with Brad for years, as well as several of my friends, and definitely plan on continuing into the future. **★★★★★ — T Wilson, Feb. 2016** > Our experience working with Brad was wonderful. From the very beginning, it was obvious to us that Brad found joy in creating beautiful spaces for his clients. He listened to what we needed and asked many questions about how we wanted to live in and use the space. He took our vision and made it so much better than we could have imagined. We started with a colonial built in the 40s that needed major renovations. Brad was able to completely transform the space while staying true to the traditional elements of the original design that we loved so much. We would absolutely use Brad in the future and highly recommend him to others. **★★★★★ — Jim Raines, Feb. 2016** > We did a major rehab project in our home in Chickasaw Gardens that was originally built in 1960 as a 2 story, 6 bedroom home with 5 baths. Mr. Shapiro prepared all construction drawings and supervised the extensive reconstruction. He worked closely with our interior designer I would not consider a new or rehab project without Mr. Shapiro's participation. He is both gifted and committed to his clients' best interest. **★★★★★ — engelberg, Jan. 2016** > We hired Brad Shapiro of Shapiro and Co to design our custom home about 3 years ago. We could not be happier with the result. Working with Brad and his staff was amazing. He is an attentive listener and figured out how to give us everything we wanted. He was also great at pushing back on us when what we were asking for was maybe not the best way to go. Brad also demonstrated flexibility, as things inevitably come up during the house build. He was readily available to meet on site to discuss issues/ changes that arose. This was our first time building a home, and we came to realize that an architect needs to be a great team player, as they need to work closely with the builder and interior designer. Brad exceeded our expectations in this regard. We had an "A+" team with Brad at the helm and if given the option to do it all over again, we wouldn't change a thing. **★★★★★ — staceycwatson, Nov. 2015** > Brad Shapiro and his team at Shapiro and Co. created a wonderful experience for our family. They were calm and and patient throughout the entire process. They made it so enjoyable we actually missed the process of building after it was over and we had moved in. We will use Shapiro and Co. if we ever build again. We have recommended them to many people who have also used them for their building needs. **★★★★★ — J. Bardos, Nov. 2015** > We hired Brad Shapiro in the summer of 2015 to design our new home in East Memphis. In our first meeting we could tell that Brad has a passion for home design, and a greater passion for pleasing his customers. His secret? Listening. Brad spent time with us, both in his office and in our current home, to gain a better understanding of what we like. He then used that information to design our new home incorporating our functional requirements with aesthetic beauty. > > We highly recommend Shapiro & Company if you are considering building a new home or remodeling an existing one. **★★★★★ — aellzey, Nov. 2014** > We had a great experience with Brad Shapiro of Shapiro and Company as the architect of our personal residence. Brad took all of the time necessary on the front end to listen to us and learn about our lifestyle and what our desires were for our future home. We had a heavily treed lot with significant slope which required a high level of expertise, and Brad and his team were easily up to the task. One thing I really appreciate is the inspiration and creativity they brought to our project, but also the necessary practical side of making the house doable and within budget. Brad also worked closely with our builder to sort out issues that came up during construction. We could tell it was really important to him that the project would be done right, to see his vision for the property come to fruition. We had a great experience with Shapiro and Company and give them our highest recommendation **★★★★★ — pkssmith, Oct. 2014** > Working with Brad Shapiro was the best money I spent in the whole process. We used Brad from start to finish, not just to draw the plans and hand to the builder. He helped us create the vision for our custom home, take the vision to a concept stage, get the concept on paper, modify it on the fly to accommodate our changing thoughts or to add exciting new direction and details we hadn't considered. From there he worked seamlessly with us and our builder on every phase to complete the construction in a way that held true to the original vision and resulted in a home second to none. If you want a firm that is easy to work with and has you and your family's best interest in mind, not their own, and you want a close, personal, working relationship with your architect, Shapiro & Company is the preeminent choice. ## Selected projects - [Memphis Courtyard Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/memphis-courtyard-residence-pj-vj~7553873) - Location: Memphis, TN - Photos: 22 - Description: Tucked away on a quiet street in East Memphis, this home was designed to be a private retreat. The Vesta Home is the most popular show home in the Memphis area and attracted more than 40,000 visitors. The home was designed in a similar fashion to a custom home where we design to accommodate the family that might live here. As with many properties that are 1/3 of an acre, homes are in fairly close proximity and therefore this house was designed to focus the majority of the views into a private cour… - [East Memphis Renovation](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/east-memphis-renovation-pj-vj~6357122) - Location: Memphis, TN - Photos: 18 - Description: Our clients loved this tree-lined older, established neighborhood. They bought a house there that needed substantial renovations as it probably had not been updated in 30-40 years. They contacted Shapiro & Co in hopes that they would be able to transition an older, outdated house to a home that retained its character but was redesigned to meet the current needs of the family. The house foyer was very small and not accomodating for visitors so the architects relocated the entry and added a welcom… - [Summer Cottage](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/summer-cottage-pj-vj~5933133) - Location: Not specified - Photos: 24 - Description: This summer cottage was designed for a couple that had fond memories of the area where the husband and wife spent many summers as children. The beautiful wooded property fronts Lake Michigan and a tremendous amount of effort was placed on designing the home to accommodate the unique needs of a summer home while maximizing views to the Lake. Not only does the property enjoy endless water views, it also looks over the rolling woods. The historic neighborhood does not have larger homes that would accommodate the family so the clients decided to undergo a major renovation. Due to the historic nature of the neighborhood, there are strict design guidelines that must be followed. The client wanted to maintain the charm of the existing home, but the family needs meant that significant additions and… - [Family Home in Brentwood, TN](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/family-home-in-brentwood-tn-pj-vj~5904142) - Location: Nashville, TN - Photos: 14 - Description: Brentwood is a desirable bedroom community suburb of Nashville. Even though our client’s family had outgrown their home, they loved their neighborhood and didn’t want to leave. After evaluating the possibility for a major renovation, it was determined that it was more feasible to tear down the existing home and build new. As with many properties in the Nashville area, the site was sloped but the family wanted to create easily accessible outdoor spaces and a pool. Therefore, in the early design s… - [East Memphis Back Porch Addition](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/east-memphis-back-porch-addition-pj-vj~5781074) - Location: Not specified - Photos: 9 - [Gothic Revival Lake Cottage](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/gothic-revival-lake-cottage-pj-vj~5781095) - Location: Not specified - Photos: 13 - [East Memphis home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/east-memphis-home-pj-vj~5404382) - Location: Memphis, TN - Photos: 16 - [Room with a View](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/room-with-a-view-pj-vj~5403067) - Location: Not specified - Photos: 28 - [Private Cottage in Leipers Fork](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/private-cottage-in-leipers-fork-pj-vj~2737583) - Location: Leipers Fork, TN - Photos: 36 - [Private Tennessee Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/private-tennessee-residence-pj-vj~1297359) - Location: Not specified - Photos: 32 - [Georgian Manor Home](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/georgian-manor-home-pj-vj~763261) - Location: Not specified - Photos: 7 - Description: Shapiro & Company Architects Nobles & Olson Construction Julie Nicholson Interior Design Harriet McGeorge Landscape Architect - [Farmhouse and Carriage House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/farmhouse-and-carriage-house-pj-vj~1488423) - Location: Memphis, TN - Photos: 17 [See all 38 projects](https://www.houzz.com/professionals/architects-and-building-designers/shapiro-and-company-architects-pfvwus-pf~218344805) ## Ideabooks - [Payne](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/87535045/list/payne) — 4 ideas [See all 1 ideabook](https://www.houzz.com/ideabooks/users/shapiroandco) ## Community Q&A **Q: What're can I find that sink and faucet?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: They were custom made for our client. **Q: New 1st floor bath** *(in Photo Questions)* Where can I get the sink?
