While that is being completed, I noticed that my garage that faces the road needs a little love. Does anyone have any curb appeal suggestions for my garage? As you can see my porch project is almost finished. I would also welcome any suggestions to help improve the curb appeal for my house in addition to my garage! A: Beautiful house colors! The new porch design is perfect and much more inviting. I like the previous suggestion of a quality vintage gooseneck farm or warehouse light in dark umber or black centered over the garage. The garage arbor is a great idea, but in your case is not needed and may compete with the featured front porch architecture. I trust there will be no white on or around front door(s) when you are completed. I imagine Black Bean front door with the gold trim is your plan. I agree about the shutters. They don't appear to be active and distract from the scheme. Maybe neatly bordered gray paver base ... some simple landscsping as well designed as everything else ... and you are done! Will the underpinning on the front porch be a custom square lattice in a dark color or stain (please not white diagonal or plastic)? That looks like a very happy Magnolia tree. You should be proud. **Q: Seriously need help with Curb Appeal!? It's sooo complicated... :)** *(in Design Dilemma)* I'm updating my post to take out the long list of questions... I just want to see what people say off the top of their heads! Paint color... front house vs. back house... brick + red painted concrete area... roof color.... 10+ windows on the flat front of the house!.... what screams as most important to update? What are the priorities? A: Please don't contrast the TRIM color. The fascia and window trim on this house offer ZERO interesting features. Also, get some GREEN-B-GONE! To paint the house 1967 school lunchroom green only competes with the natural landscape greenery, and is about as appealing as those school lunches. Try 2 or 3 shades of light warm putty GREY that coordinate with the roof. You can find the perfect colors in the trunks of your trees. NO nursing home white on the house!!! Don't pick out the TRIM except for the front door (something bold like black, red, very dark grey, or dark stained natural wood ). Eliminate all the junky brick-a-brac along the front of the house. Focus on the ENTRYWAY. Maybe real copper RAIN CHAINS flanking the porch with very large real terra cotta URNS. You could paint the back structure a darker coordinating medium grey. You don't have to match the house. Maybe do some dark grey/chocolate window boxes under the short front windows. Remove all shutters. I would use dark chocolate mulch (not red), and maybe a dark wood bench. **Q: Help! - Cabinet depth refrigerator at the wall** *(in Design Dilemma)* I am planning to put a cabinet depth refrigerator in the noted spot to allow a bigger opening to the dining room. (The wall will be shorter than the 2-9" and the opening more than 2-8.) The fridge I chose is a side by side counter depth. It's 28.625" deep without the handle and 30.5" with the handle. How deep should the wall beside it be to cover the fridge side view from the dining room but allow easy opening? A: Is this new construction or remodeling? A side-by-side refrigerator should not be adjacent to the dishwasher ... and locating the refrigerator right in the doorway to the dining room is also poor design. Can you post the entire kitchen (including dining room) space? You may want to consider consulting with an architect, interior designer, and/or an experienced kitchen cabinet design specialist. In most cases, there are several possible kitchen design configurations which will offer a functional solution in the allowed space. **Q: Hate my new granite!!! This whole process has been a nightmare :(** *(in Design Dilemma)* I'm really trying not to get so worked up about this, but it's hard not to. I made SO many trips to the granite yard (dragging my 2 young kids along) to find the \*Perfect\* granite and when I thought I found it, after it's installed I see that it is not at all the look I was going for. I feel like the granite is way too light and has greenish undertones, while my cabinets and floor have red/orange undertones. What a gross combination :( Since financially I do not have the option for new counters, I'm trying to figure out a backsplash and paint color that will help me minimize the green in the counters and bring out the warmer undertones. Please help. Once again, I'm trying not to take this too seriously...I know there are so many people out there that have much bigger and more serious problems than kitchen design. However, I have spent MONTHS ever so carefully repainting the cabinets, adding trim, adding crown molding, and picking out granite only to be sorely disappointed by the results. I've been sick to my stomach the last 3 days since the granite was installed. I appreciate your help. A: It will look a lot better once the cabinet doors are re-installed. **Q: Fruit backsplash to warm and modern - Before and After** *(in Design Dilemma)* We had fruit tile backsplash and laminate counters in our home. In order to keep the current cabinets and floor, we chose warm, modern granite and tiles. A: The new countertops work great with the cabinets and the backsplash and the stainless steel appliances. Excellent choice. With a few stainless steel accessories that also bring in some color ... will help pull it all together even more. **Q: Need ideas for Curb appeal and entrance!!** *(in Design Dilemma)* I just bought a little adobe style home.
