Very slow, unorganized and unreliable. From the beginning, the owner frequently forgot major details, such as the exact location of where the house was to be placed on the lot (approximately 10 feet from where the foundation was poured) or the brick accents (never ordered and took 7 weeks just to get in) also, after we moved in, I discovered on the roof of the 3 car garage the ridge vent had been installed without any slot cut underneath to allow air flow through the attic. Seldom did they check behind the subcontractors, therefore several projects were left unfinished and lacked quality craftsmanship. It was left to us to continually manage this process. Along the way we made Frank Rodgers aware of several problems such as this that needed correcting, none of which he was aware of before we pointed them out. When these were brought to his attention, he either argued with us or blamed someone else as opposed to simply correcting it. This meant each time we were presented with the decision to either hold our ground and have the house done correctly or proceed with the house as is. Some of the subcontractors were professional and did very good work. However, the majority of the time up to three weeks went by without any work being done on the house. It seemed subcontractors weren’t willing to partner with Finial. This is the third home we have build so we are no stranger to this process, but it would be safe to say this was the most exhausting and stressful build we have ever experienced. When we set out to build our dream custom home,it was our expectation the work would be of excellent quality and tailored to our selections. Yes! > In 2010, Finial Custom Builders did a large addition of a Master Bedroom closet/dressing/laundry facility at my home. It was quite involved and included custom-designed cabinetry & shelving built in place. Frank and the people who work for him listened to all my requests and did their best to accommodate them. Some of my requests were unique--different from their standard practice, but they did their best to comply. For instance, I requested shelving without applied outer-edge trim in the master closet addition in order to accommodate more shoe box storage. I also needed upper-level closet rods installed lower than the standard 86". They complied to requests such as these without any problems. In some cases, I would share an idea that seemed impossible, and Frank would make it work or have a better idea. In some cases, my requests were too costly, and Frank was very helpful as far as helping me make choices that would keep me close to my budget. Part of the job required matching new cabinet finishes with existing finishes, and these turned out to be indistinguishable from each other. In the same project, new built-in cabinetry, mantel, and wiring were installed in the family room for media equipment. The cabinetry was very beautiful, and perfectly functional as well. Another part of the project was to reconfigure a hallway, bathroom and bedroom for more efficient use of the space and to create more storage for the bedroom. Frank designed and then constructed a beautiful built-in storage/vanity area in the bedroom, which included integrated lighting and met my daughter's needs and all her wants, too. > Our job was very clean, and our neighbors never had any complaints during the construction process. One neighbor even commented that he would hire Finial partly as a result of the fact that Frank took a letter of introduction to each neighbor on my street, stating that he was working in the area and to alert him to any problems that might be caused by the construction. At the conclusion of the job, Frank had the house interior cleaned, and, when it was not performed to his satisfaction, he had it cleaned again. He uses a different cleaning crew now. > The job I have just described was the largest job Finial has completed for us. However, they also remodeled the master bathroom of a different home in 2008, and completed other renovations to that same home in 2014. The 2014 job included raising floor surfaces so they would be flat throughout the lower level of our home, reconfiguring a doorway, refinishing wood floor, and completely repainting the inside of our home. Because of our previous experiences with Frank and Finial Custom Builders, we would not have considered asking anyone else to do the work. > Now, in 2015, we are about to begin our fourth project with Finial Custom Builders, Inc.
