After finding multiple issues we contacted Mr. Miller but he brushed us off. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (Sensitive Information Hidden) > > Long story short: Two forensic engineers (his insurance's and ours) both concluded that the new deck was riddled with code violations and bad craftsmanship. Fortunately we finally got our money back (incl. cost for the needed tear-down). The proposal from Ed Miller, Edwards Construction Inc, was clearly the most professional. I explained that we wanted an enclosed porch of about 18ft with a connecting 10ft deck to fill the existing 28ft space. Ed immediately grasped what we wanted and made numerous design suggestions that resulted in our “custom built 18ft x 14ft three season room & 10ft x 12ft TimberTech deck”. > Within a few days of the first meeting, he provided a proposal that included a detailed architectural blueprint, photos of similar projects his company had done, list of previous clients, description of materials used, project cost, estimated start date and a construction contract. He invited any questions or suggestions for changes. The estimated construction date was about 2½ months out due to projects already scheduled, with caveats of weather permitting. The actual start date was about 2 weeks beyond estimate due to weather and satisfying additional current client requests. Ed and I communicated along the way to plan the start date. > Jeff, Chris and Kenny were our project crew. Jeff, as crew leader, is a master craftsman who takes great pride in his work and has completed hundreds of remodeling and construction projects. Chris and Kenny, his able assistants, combined to make the project go smoothly. They freely answered questions and made suggestions. The sunroom is beautiful and the work done efficiently and professionally. The major issue is that the furnace flue was completely covered by the deck creating a major safety issue that did not pass inspection. Rather than doing the job right the first time, Mr. Edwards' remedy was to cut a hole in the deck and stick the pipe out 18" from the deck. Mr. Edwards never met my request to fix this in a more acceptable way. This has been a major and embarrassing eyesore on my deck all these years. I resolved it by blocking the huge flue pipe with a planter, but I would have expected more with such a major investment. As I now am looking to sell my home to downsize, the flue sticking out of the deck is becoming a detractor for potential buyers. I've enjoyed the beautiful sunroom all these years. Wish I could say the same for the deck. I would not recommend. **Comment from Edwards Construction Inc.:** > I don't remember Bonnie's project since it was 10 years ago but I know that if she wasn't happy at the time, she would have contacted me alot sooner and my phone number has not changed in 40 years. It seems obvious to me, there were few options as to where to run the furnace flue pipe. It cannot be under a window and our sunrooms are all windows. Being totally happy with the sunroom, why would she want to tarnish my good name now?
