## Community Q&A

**Q: need help with my bath.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have beige tiles in my bath, the floor and the shower with white cabinets. What color should I paint my walls to have some nice contrast while keeping a clean elegant look?

A: Post a Picture

**Q: What's better for a shower--fiberglass or tile?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Building a new bathroom and cannot decide whether to use all tile, all fiberglass/acrylic, or a fiberglass shower tray with tile walls. Pros and cons?j

A: fiberglass is easier to clean, you do not have to worry about grout getting dirty or fading color over time.
but the aesthetics are what probably drives this decision for most people.

**Q: Need to reduce noise coming into and out of home office** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Our home office is next to the great room and foyer.
Husband works from 6:30 to sometimes 8:00 at night so running a vacuum, listening to music, news or anything for that matter can't be done. Home feels like a quite zone instead of home.
Any suggestions on sound proofing or reducing noise would be appreciated.
Have glass doors on both entry points.
He is not ready to purchase more doors.

A: the things i recommended are cheap and easy to install

**Q: Can I cover popcorn ceiling with beadboard treatment?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We'd like to eliminate ugly popcorn ceiling treatment in our home. Can we apply a painted bead board treatment over the popcorn instead of removing it?

A: Sure, why not?

**Q: Need help finding a designer for my back yard project** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My backyard is somewhat out dated and I would like to add some outside design elements that make the yard inviting and social. I live on Long Island and I'm open for suggestions on the type of designer I should contact

A: http://www.nyscla.org/db/nyscla\_search.php

**Q: How to start choosing paint colors?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have recently bought a house and we are in the process of choosing wall paint colors. Never done this before (no paint allowed in our rented apartment) so I am bit overwhelmed with the choices available. We are thinking of a neutral gray theme for the entire house and then do complimentary colors for bathrooms or dining room. The floors will be stained a dark walnut color (not super dark but not light either). Does anyone have any suggestions of the names of paint they chose or real pictures in the color schemes I mentioned? I think the painter that I am going to use prefers Sherwin Williams or equivalent paint. Thank you

A: I think Sherman Williams is more expensive, as per quality I'm not sure who is better but they are both very good.
