The workers came at the allotted time and cleaned up after themselves. Every worker was friendly and answered our questions. We were very impressed that there was no use of bad language. Our downstairs bathroom now has a very pleasing professional look. **★ — User, Jan. 2016** > We had a kitchen renovation that was started by a contractor but never finished so we were looking for someone to complete the job. DMC was referred to us through a friend of our son and was 1 of 3 companies we received quotes from. Although we did not pick them to finish the kitchen renovation, we did eventually hire them to replace 23 windows and 2 patio doors, install wood returns on 13 lower floor windows, 3 upper floor windows and both patio doors. DMC took all measurements and were responsible to order, install and finish the window trimming. For some reason 1 of the patio doors was incorrectly measured or built and did not fit the intended opening. Rather than reorder the correct size of door, DMC chose to install a door that was shorter and wider than our original door "without" consultation with us. DMC went on to install the wider door in a manner that left it off center in the middle of a bay window location and "raised" it off the floor to compensate for the shortness. Therefore the trim is "wider" on one side of the doorway than the other side of the doorway. Having the door raised off the floor caused a hazard for people stepping through the doorway to the lower back deck. DMC was made to remove the patio door and lower it to the floor level. > This error should not have occurred and was not handled to our satisfaction. A proper width and height door should have been reordered and installed as originally agreed to. > Overall I believe DMC has potential to do quality work, but the lack of communication with us over the error of the patio door and their unwillingness to resolve it properly has caused us to give them this rating. This is unfortunate as one of their employees was awesome and certainly seemed to know what he was doing - too bad he did not work on the patio door issue. **Comment from DMC Contracting:** > Hi, > > I am so sorry to hear about the negative impression you had of my company, DMC Contracting. However, I am a bit confused by your review. We at DMC, take a lot of pride in our work and know that our name carries along with the services we provide. > > Let us clarify - DMC got involved following a bad kitchen remodel that had not been completed because it was not going well. Clients were upset with how the previous contractors had served them, and we were brought on to finish and fix up the job. We came back a second time to give them a quote on how much it would be to fix the project. We brought our ticketed joiner with us, (myself and my salesman at the time) to get a closer look at the project to do a good thorough investigation. We took a professional look at the job as it was after the previous contractors left, and attempted to take all emotion out of the process, as we could tell they were upset with the job the previous contractors had done. > > After the second meeting my team and I came to the conclusion that this kitchen was well made and installed correctly, the only problems we found were: the boxes had tape edging which was not what they wanted, and the tile floor may have been over priced. All due to the quotes provided by the previous contractor. The biggest thing we found was that the job just had a large problem of miscommunication between the home owner and the previously hired contractor. > > After helping them with their inspection, they went on to take that contractor to court and we did not hear about the out come. They were very nice and knew what they wanted, they asked us to give them a quote on replacing 23 windows and one sliding door. We gave them the quote and were granted the job. When we installed the windows we had a change-order signed for installing all new molding, casing the 13 windows, and installing another sliding door in the kitchen and casing the kitchen entry way. > > When we installed the back sliding door, the door was set at a standard size due to building code restrictions. We offered to remove and replace the door, but they said they were happy with the install, and understood that if shifted the door over to center it we would be weakening the support structure above. They also knew a custom door would cost more and they were in full communication through this whole change order. We have the documents to back up this communication. > > As for the safety of the door height, this was also explained to the client. If he wanted to have the door lowered then we could but it would cost more to remove the concrete threshold, and it would be vary close to the exterior pool deck. To be "up to code" you must have 6” of space under the door to prevent water penetration. This was also explained and they agreed to not go ageist the BC Building Code. Our documents also can back up this conversation. > > We at DMC work hard to make sure the client is satisfied and happy with the work and end product we had no idea that the costumer was not happy and they have held this in for 3 years. Why they never told us of any discrepancies until this point - I am unsure. > > While we understand your frustration with aspects of your project, and know that issues arise with any construction work, we at DMC have gone above and beyond to rectify any and all issues related to your experience. We have covered multiple expenses, and provided a credit due to the door being unable to be placed in the desired location. Despite the fact all of these items were agreed upon prior to installation and met manufacturer specifications.
