Rug? coffee table? A: I was thinking something like... rugs are difficult bc they have to capture your style...but definitely have fun them :) but think with your space, keep it light and have a little black to pull away from your sofa. A: I agree with anniebird. You have such a huge space, and what looks like a bistro table to dine on. Look for a nice rectangular table to create some volume. Don't be afraid to go big. Looking at your table and accessories, looks like you may be a little timid on making a grand gesture (you have tiny little things in such a vast area). One or two big gestures is much better than a ton of little ones. With that, keep your bar stools in similar style and color to table - that will keep cohesion in the look. Create pops of color and life with vases, maybe a cool colored kitchen aid? Window treatments and hardware as previously mentioned. maybe a paiting on that one wall by the large window? **Q: Help with curtains for charcoal grey living room!** *(in Design Dilemma)* We painted our small living room farrow and ball moles breath. I love it, the room feel cosy and warm which was the intention. We are now wondering what to do re curtains in the bay window...should we go with white floaty voile type curtains to maximise light, or a thicker lined curtain to accentuate coziness (but may block light) or else white shutters as a wild card?! The room is south facing but does not get a huge amount of light. The room is mainly going to be used as an evening den type living room. Any advice greatly appreciated! I would personally go with white sheers and a lavender for the curtain. maybe even a metalic thread?? **Q: Architect vs Draftsman** *(in Design Dilemma)* I want to remodel and add to my 1940s flat roof house in Anacortes WA. the updates would include existing foundation joist replacement/stabilization, removing flat roof and adding a peaked roof, raising ceiling heights, rewiring, updating plumbing, and adding a master bedroom/bath/closet and garage. Do i hire an Architect or draftsman to draw up the construction plans to submit to contractors and permitting? a local contractor referred me to a draftsman. A: I think mydogmiddy is on a good point. If you want to actually renovate, keep in tune with the existing home. By your original wishlist, you're really doing no service to the keep sake of the house (which you seem to want to hold,?) youre completely redesigning it. When one thinks renovation, you sort of expect to tear down a few walls, do some bathrooms and a kitchen, etc. Essentially update the interior non-structural elements to the existing frame. Anything beyond non-structural, youre going to need an architect. Why? Bc a draftsman will do it....but then their going to charge you an expeditor fee which (at least in nyc) is incredibly expensive plus whatever he may have to pay the architect bc...your building has to stand up. So. You can go to an architect who will understand your vision of totally demolishing and rebuilding your family keep sake as a renovation. Hire an architect to raze the existing building and build new what you want and most likely a lower cost. Or, hire a draftsman who will charge you for his work, and/or the architects fees with a 10-20% commision maybe even another few for an expeditor fee just so you can get your drawings stamped. **Q: What color is this exterior paint?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: look in the taupe range **Q: Is this just too much? Or not enough Suggestions please.** *(in Design Dilemma)* Is this overkill? This is all in the same space. Dining room open to livingroom. I bought a jute area rug for under the dining room table. Is this working? I'm still not done, but I'd love honest feedback. A: perhaps some nice window treatments is what you need.
