> Renaissance Conservatories was company that provided a very detailed full glass conservatory as an addition to a historical renovation of a Victorian styled farm house on an island in Washington State's Puget Sound. They took care of all the design and construction details and showed up 3000 miles away from their shop with a truck load of prebuilt sections and a crew to assemble the building. It was quite an operation that flowed very smoothly and produced a finished product everybody is in awe with. I highly recommend the Renaissance team.

> I am in the process of selecting the perfect garden bay window for my upcoming kitchen remodel. At first, I was warned by several contractors of potential problems with leakage and how it's a major headache for both installer and homeowner. A couple of big window manufacturers didn't even want to take it on (my proposed window is 48x48, not the small one that most people may associate this window with). However I sourced a few companies that specializes in specialty windows and although I haven't made the final decision (pending some more information), this company in particular stands out for the following reasons: 1) my project gets individual attention from the same person instead of being tossed around to several folks where info can get lost or you have to repeat yourself. My emails get answered in a very timely and helpful manner.  2) they provide beautiful, detailed brochures including their pricing structure so you know exactly what feature cost will cost how much. They even include schematics of the window construction which was personally important to me.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Turning a Breezeway into a Sun Room/Conservatory** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We purchased a Cape Cod home and love its traditional floor plan and charm. Small changes have allowed us to retain its character that the former owners loved.  
We found that the breezeway between the kitchen/laundry back door to the garage collected leaves and was too narrow for seating. Our contractor, Bob Penny of Hawk Meadow Homecraft in Bellingham, WA, designed and built a wonderful new space for us. I am posting photos for the first time and hope that they give ideas to others.
We salvaged the original siding and placed it on the new exterior. Due to building requirements, the sliding door is double pane, the vinyl windows are triple pane and the skylights are quadruple pane. As much as we hoped for aluminum clad wood windows, the budget did not allow the cost. The floor is a tile brick and cost about $5 per square foot. We left the wooden ceiling as is but freshened up the paint and used can converters to allow us to install schoolhouse fixtures. We left the sliding doors to the family room in place due to pets and grandchildren but they can be removed at a later date to allow open flow.
One of our next projects is to open up the former back kitchen/laundry door and laundry room into the sun room. We will make it into a butler's pantry. We plan to hide the washer and dryer with custom built cabinets and granite that are the same as those in the adjoining kitchen. We will remove a pocket door to open up the kitchen to the butler's pantry and sun room to allow flow.
