Jonathan delivered all of these items in an innovative design that works on multiple levels. > I wanted a large natural presence, with abundant greenery and a kind of hybrid modern and traditional blended concept that mixes elements of Tuscany with the innovative blend of the new with the old, seen in contemporary Roman architecture. Jonathan produced a paean to nature with a pyramid with an elevated lawn as the footrest in front of a daybed that has the entire retaining wall/ side of the mountain as its "backboard." It was the answer for my request for "harmony with nature." It has almost a kind of surrealist quality as a concept, with the earth (the elevated lawn) being raised toward the sky, with the lawn being a footprint for bedding that blurs the line between natural and artificial. > I can also see the functional brilliance of that part of the design, given that it offers a pragmatic conceptual function, as well. I told Jonathan that I wanted the space to be able to hold parties of up to 30 people. The elevated lawn also serves as a potential stage for performers/musicians. > The enclosed private grotto on the side of the house is in a secluded area outside of my office and media room. It lends itself to quiet and a feeling of privacy in my office and a kind of outdoor retreat. I also allows splinter groups of people to have more privacy during a party. Given that my media room has a wet bar, Jonathan has also inspired me to design the media room space as a theater, but also as a kind of social gathering space that ties into the outdoor design of the grotto, and allows for a kind of indoor variation of privation. > The pool design with the elevated spa makes great use of the retractable wall at the back of the great room. It maximizes the impact of the indoor space. I can submit the plan for review, if desired. The backyard is still under construction and is a formidable project. I want to nominate Jonathan for Best of Houzz Customer Service award. I know that Sage can do many different sizes and kinds of jobs, however ours was large and complicated as it was a complete rebuild on a large custom estate. The process of developing the plan was collaborative and very thoughtful. We were able to specify lots of details on the plans to ensure the contractor would not stray from the plan. We also received Jonathan's coaching with the bidding process, build and inspections throughout the development. We ended up with a finished result that is truly amazing! Although we did this rebuild because we love to have a beautiful landscape, we are certainly pleased to receive regular compliments from our neighbors on the job. Listened to our needs and desires to guide the conceptual program. All of the elements of the design flow well, from the built-in bbq and adjacent dining table to the tiled fire feature nestled alongside the pool allowing for ease of conversation and accessibility between spaces. The materials complement the existing residence and give the illusion that they were always in place, not an addition. A large portion of the backyard was raised, giving the feeling of being on display to neighboring properties. The solution was to lower the deck to house grade creating more usable area in the limited space. We look forward to entertaining family and friends in a comforting setting of our hedge wrapped dining area. The view of the Las Vegas Strip in the valley below is framed on the other side with oaks that double as a screen to the two story next door. A night walk-through allowed us to fine tune the landscape lighting. Worked very well with our contractor and was an excellent communicator. The project was a great success and we would highly recommend Sage Design Studios, Inc.
