The price was in excess of $150,000. Contrary to all of my instincts, I agreed to Susan's demands that the full price be paid in advance of any of the work being done. Long story short—a year later our bathroom, project was completed but only after dealing with her contemptuous personality. > > The latest insult we suffered from Susan concerns an additional 24-inch brass grab bar which, despite a 3-month wait, has not been delivered to us. She claims this is a special order item that takes 3 to 4 month to fabricate, and therefore cannot be cancelled, and the cost of $820 will not be refunded to us. In the meantime, we ordered and received from Amazon an identical Grab bar for $98 two days after ordering it. It seems that grab bars are off-the-shelf items that are returnable—at least at Amazon. **Comment from Susan Muschweck Interior Design, LLC:** > At the completion of this high-end bathroom remodel, the homeowner’s son requested an additional 24” grab bar to keep in storage, in case it was ever needed in the future for his parents. This remodel was an aging-in-place project. > > The fixtures selected and installed in the updated bathroom are all made-to-order, solid brass fixtures in a French Gold finish, purchased from SPLASH in Cranberry Township. The original fixtures took four months to arrive, but we were aware of this turnaround time, and planned the start date in accordance with the arrival of the fixtures. Before we start any job, we have all materials on deck. > > When the homeowner’s son asked for an additional grab bar to keep on hand for possible future use, we reminded him that these are made-to-order and take months to arrive. He still approved the purchase and cost. > > This additional grab bar took three months to arrive. It was paid for on November 20, 2023 and delivered on February, 28th, 2024. In the interim, we updated them regularly to inform them of the status. > > This turnaround time did not impede the project, as the beautiful bathroom was complete with all grab bars already installed. This extra grab bar was a request, after the fact, only to be put in storage. > > Two weeks before this extra grab bar was to arrive, the homeowner notified us that he purchased a grab bar on Amazon, which he incorrectly believed was the same. In fact, it is a sub-par piece. It is not the same brand, finish, or quality. However, he demanded a refund for the French Gold grab bar. We explained that the grab bar is made-to-order and non-refundable. > > In order to appease the homeowner, we hand delivered their requested, extra grab bar once we received it, along with a check for a full refund, at our loss. This goes against our Terms and Conditions, which the homeowner had reviewed and signed. These terms clearly state the following: > > "Once purchased, most items cannot be returned or cancelled. Requests to do so will be assessed on a per-item basis with no guarantee of return or cancellation. Custom items cannot be cancelled or returned." > > In 30 years of business, I have never received a complaint. I have almost 100 5-star reviews on Houzz.com. We were quite overwhelmed, but they helped guide us and over the course of about one year we stayed in the loop and gave them feedback during the entire home renovation process. Be sure to communicate to them if you like the design or would like to see alternatives and feel free to brainstorm with them or point out things that concern you. The vendors (painters, carpet, wood, general contractor, cabinets) they use are high quality. Susan and team are flexible as well. In our case, we ended up changing paint colors when painting the entire interior -- be sure to swatch samples on the wall to make sure you really like the color. Jillian was great in helping us pivot on home colors and keeping the project on schedule. We also did last-minute modifications dealing with custom closets and lighting but they were patient and understanding all throughout. Susan and team have seen it all and thus have broad experience. Other areas they helped us involved new outside railings, new French doors, inside stairway railings, new carpet, fixing the venting above the range hood, fixing/sanding wooden floors, and new ceiling fans. Not getting everything in writing was definitely my fault. Turns out this person was a glorified house-flipper w/ a short-lived HGTV show, no regard for budget, time, or straightforwardness. She was able to replicate ideas from photos I shared. However, she gave her subcontractors very little support & took them off of our project to finish up her investment homes for closing dates. Our bedroom was taped off & we accessed our bed through a plastic zipper wall for well over 2 months. I HAVE ONE THAT IS STAINED WOOD AND WOULD LIKE TO DO SOMETHING MORE MODERN TO IT. WHAT BRAND/COLOR OF PAINT IS THIS? WAS THIS UNIT STAINED WOOD PREVIOUSLY? THANKS! A: Pretty dramatic transformation, don't you agree? **Q: What are the dimensions of the island breakfast bar.** *(in Photo Questions)* Countertop depth and base cabinet size? A: This kitchen was done a few years ago. I no longer have the information. But, the depth of the cabinet is 24" plus 12 extra inches for the surface overhang. **Q: Architect?** *(in Photo Questions)* I think it would be nice of you to tag the architect here. A: it would....if I would've ever know who that was. I did hang art, paint selections, and a few flourishes, here, and there.
