She took a so-so boring floor plan and flipped it on its' head. We always wanted a kitchen island but thought our kitchen was too small. She made it happen without being cramped at all. From start to finish we were impressed with Janel. She listened to our ideas and gave us other ideas to consider as well. Ideas we would never have thought of, such as counter to ceiling designer tile as a statement, different complimentary paint colors on a couple of walls, contrasting countertop on the island compared to the sink countertop, a raised "floating" eating area, and moving the main dining area completely. One of the best things is how she was able to make a compartmentalized floor plan that felt a bit cramped into an open concept plan with way more light than we thought possible, all without adding windows or changing the exterior wall footprint. Then there is the functionality. When cooking, her design allowed for everything to be within easy reach. It's the most efficient work triangle we've ever experienced, and with the openness we can be part of the party while cooking. We hosted a large crowd for Thanksgiving dinner, and the functionality and flow of traffic she designed was amazing. Everything about this remodel was beyond our expectations. Janel has a keen eye for detail and knows what works well together. When the project was "complete" she walked through and identified some things she wanted changed just a bit. Things we really would not have noticed, but the designer in her did notice. She made those slight changes, and of course she was right. It did make a difference. Things like a woodgrain she wasn't completely happy with, or an extra piece of moulding she wanted. If you want a design and end product that will blow your mind for years to come, do yourself a favor and hire Janel Campbell. She's amazing and we have the remodel of our dreams because of her. A: @kellydoug thank you for your interest, this was such a fun project to create! The bathroom was remodeled in 2011-with natural slate. Since it's a natural material, and 10 years later, it may be challenging to find the same material now. It was from Pental, Indian Autumn Slate. **Q: How do you keep the toe kick drawer from sliding in?** *(in Photo Questions)* Have you had a problem at all with this model of toe kick stool sliding in on the kiddos because they just aren't heavy enough to keep the drawer from sliding back in? A: This is more than a pull out-it's a pull out then it unfolds into a multi step step stool to carry around the kitchen. It folds up and hides discreetly under the cabinet. **Q: Floor tile** *(in Photo Questions)* Could you please provide source/color for the lovely floor tile? A: The tile came from a local supplier, Pental. Natural stone, especially slate, has a lot of variation and often goes by different names at different suppliers. Stock will change from batch to batch or year to year as it comes out of the earth. My best advice is to check stock at your local supplier and show them this picture to see what they can offer. (This bathroom was completed in 2010) **Q: Where is the hood vent?** *(in Photo Questions)* Hi. I have a similar design I am working on in my new house. My question has to do with the hood. Where is the vent for the hood placed and if it is on an outside wall, how did you finish the outside so it doesn't interfere with the lines of the window and the exterior appeal? A: This is an exterior wall on the side of the house. Neither the homeowner or neighbors have it in their normal line of sight. This may not be the solution for every project. Depending on if the blower is at the hood or a remote blower you may want to run the duct all the way up to the roof. **Q: slide in stove with quartz countertops** *(in Photo Questions)* have you have any issues with the heat from stove on the counter? I heard quartz expose to extreme heat can be damaged, and I bought the same type of range and I am also considering quartz for the counter. Thanks in advance for any help. A: You are right that it's not recommended to subject quartz to extreme heat, it can damage the countertop. The minimal heat that you get from the side of the stove/cook top isn't going to damage it, but I would not suggest sliding hot pots/pans from the cook top directly onto it-use a pot holder or trivot.
