> Top notch firm! We have been blessed to work with Rob and his team of professionals on several projects. The integrity of their design work is cutting edge. I have been very pleased with CBI's follow up and constant communication throughout every project. They love what they do and are very good at it. I am currently working with CBI on a very high end project with sophisticated details. Rob and Amanda have been shoulder to shoulder with us the entire way to ensure overall success. Clients are extremely pleased and have mentioned to me more than once that their new home experience has exceeded expectations.

> After parting ways with a design build team who could not provide us but we were looking for after several months, we hired CBI design and Rob Clarke. After speaking to Rob on the phone and having him look at the property, within two weeks, he came up with the perfect fan shaped design for our house to capture views of both bodies of water. We were very pleased with the ingenious design and then proceeded to par it down to make it more practical. The CBI team is very professional and easy to work with. They also worked very well with our builder. We are very pleased with the outcome.

> About 15 years ago we decided to hire CBI Designs to help us renovate our old English Tudor in Michigan. It was an outstanding experience in more ways than one. The work didn't only impress us, but it also impressed HOUR Detroit Magazine as it won an award for its renovations. This positive experience has led us together in many more projects. After our home, I hired them to help me design my first boutique in St. Clair, Michigan. We took a horrible old gas station and turned it into a beautiful, historical icon which became a destination boutique. Five years later, I employed them again to help me with my second boutique in Lake Orion, Michigan. I love working with Rob, as he listens to me and I know he can help to create my vision. When I opened my third boutique 4 hours away from CBI Design, I decided to try to work with another architectural firm which was closer to the new project. That didn't last very long as I realized that this firm would never see my vision or accept my creativity. I invited Rob and his team to help me once again with my third boutique and NEW wine pub in Cheboygan, Michigan. It is stunning and it is because of CBI Design. This project was completed in July of 2018. We are now working on a multi-use facility which will house 3 apartments, a lounge, a chocolate shoppe, a small 50-seat musical theater and the first Stormy Kromer store in the USA. It was without a doubt that I asked CBI Design to help me with this project. If you are looking for someone with creativity, talent and the ability to listen to your needs, then I highly, highly recommend CBI Designs.

> We have always enjoyed working with the entire team at CBI Design Professionals, Inc. and appreciate the strong relationship we have built collaborating on various projects together. As a custom cabinetry company, we really appreciate the understanding they have of cabinet construction and design and it makes working together a smooth and easy process. It is this understanding that also allows us the ability to share in the overall vision of each project and ensure its successful completion. CBI’s professionalism, design knowledge and strong communication are a few of the key reasons why we would recommend them to any client and why we love working with them every opportunity we are given.

**★★★★★ — Bradley Baxter, Jan. 2019**

> We restored and expanded a 1920s Tudor. We hired CBI to design a kitchen and garage addition, as well as updates to the original home. CBI did a great job blending the new additions with the original parts of the home. Additionally, there were a few complex issues the cropped up during the restoration process and CBI was always on top of it with a solution. CBI was also very easy to work with - they were flexible on many decisions, but also firm and guiding when it came to more important architectural principals. CBI's rapport and understanding of the issues our builder faced was also helpful in making the project a success. I highly recommend these folks!

**★★★★★ — Bingham Development, LLC, Jan. 2019**

> We recently completed our first project with CBI Design Professionals. Working with Rob & Amanda on this large renovation / addition to a home in Bloomfield was a great experience. The plans were detailed which made for an easy build. Updates were provided on a timely basis which kept the project moving forward. Communication with both Rob & Amanda was simple and clear. We are excited about working together on the next project. I would highly recommend CBI Design Professionals

**★★★★★ — Templeton Building Co., Jan. 2019**

> They are very thorough, responsive, and a great architecture firm to team up with for remodeling projects and new homes!
> We regularly refer anyone in need of an architect to CBI and highly recommend them.

  - Description: This renovation and addition project, located in Bloomfield Hills, was completed in 2016. A master suite, located on the second floor and overlooking the backyard, was created that featured a his and hers bathroom, staging rooms, separate walk-in-closets, and a vaulted skylight in the hallways. The kitchen was stripped down and opened up to allow for gathering and prep work. Fully-custom cabinetry and a statement range help this room feel one-of-a-kind. - Description: This home addition was intended to expand the home to provide the space needed for the growing new family. The existing kitchen was gutted, expanded and opened up to a family room and nook area. Custom inset cabinets were our preference; however cost was a significant concern. The owner researched multiple companies and standard product lines to save on her budget. After careful analysis, we discovered that it was just as cost effective to use the local custom cabinet maker we preferred. This al…

  - Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI

  - Description: This project is nestled in an affluent, suburban area of metropolitan Detroit. The home was built adjacent to a severe drop in grade. Since its original construction, new roadways and adjacent property developments have left it on a difficult triangular parcel. The challenge we were offered was to come up with an expansion and modernization project to meet the owner’s new requirements, while attaining community over sight through public hearings and variance requests. We also had to be sensitive…

  - Description: In 2014, we were approached by a couple to achieve a dream space within their existing home. They wanted to expand their existing bar, wine, and cigar storage into a new one-of-a-kind room. Proud of their Italian heritage, they also wanted to bring an “old-world” feel into this project to be reminded of the unique character they experienced in Italian cellars. The dramatic tone of the space revolves around the signature piece of the project; a custom milled stone spiral stair that provides acces…

  - Description: This residence was designed to have the feeling of a classic early 1900’s Albert Kalin home. The owner and Architect referenced several homes in the area designed by Kalin to recall the character of both the traditional exterior and a more modern clean line interior inherent in those homes. The mixture of brick, natural cement plaster, and milled stone were carefully proportioned to reference the character without being a direct copy. - Description: This project started when our clients bought a small farm, including a barn and several outbuildings, on approximately 35 acres. Their idea was to create a home and gardens that they could use for hosting small and large community group social events while still being a comfortable residence. The house we started with was 2,578 square feet, originally built in the mid-1880’s. Over the past 100 years, several insensitive additions including an apartment and attached garage had been added. - Location: St. Ignace, MI

  - Description: This project began as a “cottage” on the northern shore of Lake Michigan. The owners had conflicting ideas of style for the vacation home, ranging from the Mackinac Island’s Victorian style to an updated castle with large panels of glass facing the lake. The owners, who are also avid sailors, wanted to take advantage of the shipping lane views through the Mackinac Straits. The solution was to wrap ground porches around the front and side of the house. These porches were rendered in stone and the…

  - Description: This 1936 home is an extremely well built and detailed home and it was our task to add on and renovate to keep the original design. Addition of an attached garage. The garage addition connects to a Mud Room that was not available in the original house. A substantially expanded Kitchen includes a large island and a spacious nook which overlooks the newly designed rear yard and patio space. The new kitchen maintains the family activity center by opening up to the new Family Room. The new Dining Ro…

  - Description: The client purchased this home primarily for its property and location. The original home itself was a somewhat non-descript builder’s colonial with a columned front porch and no other significant architectural detail. The owner had always admired authentic Victorian era homes and felt this home might be their best chance at ever owning one. The roof pitches and overall mass of the existing home just did not fit the new objectives so we ended up building around and over most of the original stru…

  - Location: Metamora, MI

  - Description: This kitchen is part of a new home project that has been the on going hobby of the owner for over 10 years of on and off construction. The exterior of the home was intended to appear as if it had been built in pieces over 100 years. The interior is more sophisticated but still done to reflect an older period in time. The trim and beam work is solid walnut, mostly cut from bartered trees and sawn into boards and timbers by the owner. A local mill shop helped mill and install the wood into finishe…

  - Location: Romeo, MI

  - Description: This home is in a rural area. The client was wanting a home reminiscent of those built by the auto barons of Detroit decades before. The home focuses on a nature area enhanced and expanded as part of this property development. The water feature, with its surrounding woodland and wetland areas, supports wild life species and was a significant part of the focus for our design. We orientated all primary living areas to allow for sight lines to the water feature. This included developing an undergro…

With this in mind, we needed to open up the house to its original single residence function. We also needed to add a family room, expanded kitchen, master suite, and a garage space. The lot was large enough to incorporate all of the spaces and a small pool in the rear. The owners also wanted to update the exterior finishes to give it a more traditional feel and add curb ap…

## Community Q&A

**Q: I need ideas on shutters.** *(in Photo Questions)*

It would be a simple project, shutters and a front door color.

A: Sar,
The house you referenced was a project from several years ago. We had some fun doing it. As noted by the other commenter it wasn't designed for shutters but many of the homes we design are. Our current backlog is such though that we can not really accept smaller projects at the moment. Good luck on your search.

**Q: what color gray is used** *(in Photo Questions)*

3rd photo

A: This was a great project to work on. We were the architectural team on the project and did a lot of the interior detailing, however the color scheme was specified by the owner's interior designer who is no longer practicing. We don't have a record of that color selection unfortunately.

**Q: What color is the wall paint?** *(in Photo Questions)*

pamawilliams8824@gmail.com

A: Hi Pam,
This Bath was part of a renovation to a 100 year old home. The previous bath had been renovated in a non-historic way that didn't fit the home so we worked at getting this one to fit more accurately and still have the modern amenities.
The blue color of the walls is SW 6210 Window Pane
Hope that helps

**Q: what is the island top? Where can I get it?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the dark wood look for my island but I don't know what to look for?

A: Glad you like it. Yes, this is a wood top. It is an Oak I believe. It has been awhile ago and I don't have any immediate records on it. We have done this recently with wood slabs cut from a tree that had to be removed from the property. That came out great as well and has a lot of history for the owner.

**Q: how high are the ceilings in this court?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would love to know the minimum ceiling height requirement to make the most of an indoor court like this. Thank you!

A: Thanks for your interest in our project. This is a bit unique in that it was designed as a garage for the future after the young children were done with it. The height relates to the ability to put cars on a lift. the low corners are roughly 13' and the center is roughly 18'. We generally use 18' as a minimum in these multipurpose style spaces. if it is truly a well functioning residential gym we would normally be looking for 20' or so. If adult volley ball is anticipated that increases the height. For a kids play room that happens to look like a gym we done closer to 15-16'. The biggest determining factor is how it will be used and by who. Good luck with your project and don't hesitate to ask if you need any additional information.

**Q: can you share the source of the doors?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Thank you for your interest in our project. We primarily do fully custom detailing and these doors are definitely that. They come from a local mill shop in the Detroit area. They are also a match to the other custom doors of a more typical size through out the house. If they are still of interest feel free to give us a call at the office and I'll have the contact information pulled up from the project files.
