> Amanda is an amazing designer. I have worked with her for several years and find that she has an amazing ability to connect with her clients wishes - desires - and dreams. Always working to bring the details of the project together and on budget. She receives my highest recommendation.

> I am a stone slab fabricator who has done multiple projects with Amanda. She is very easy to work with and is detail oriented. Amanda has a strong grasp on current trends as well as the classics. She is able to help her clients achieve the looks they want. From a contractors point of view she excels in project management which is often difficult in the construction world. I enjoy working with Amanda and hope to continue working with her for years to come. I highly recommend her and would use her to assist me in my own projects. Thank you, Amanda!

She is on task from start to finish. Every project we run together always goes more smoothly with her on the job! I look forward to our continued work together.

> We were exceptionally pleased with Amanda's eye for color and design. She provided exactly what we wanted - but didn't know how to achieve - and she was a pleasure to work with. We would definitely recommend her and plan to use her design skills again in the future.

## Community Q&A

**Q: WHAT KIND OF WOOD IS THAT?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: the wood in this photo is solid hickory that was hand distressed in Mexico and stained on site after installation. it's been in the house 12 years and still looks amazing!

**Q: New help in choosing new Quartz counter!!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello,
My husband and I are in the process of choosing new quartz countertops to replace the black laminate ones we have. Our kitchen seems very dark right now and we are wanting to really lighten up the space by choosing a light counter and backsplash. We know we want Quartz. Our cupboards are oak stained a very dark wine/burgundy colour. Our appliances and cabinet hardware are all stainless steel. Our floor is large beige ceramic tiles with grey swirls in it. Last week we had a countertop consultant come to the house with various samples, and the one that she suggested is zodiaq coarse carrara, which is a white quartz with subtle grey veining in it. We are wanting to go very light with the counters to brighten up an otherwise dark kitchen, and the pics we have seen of dark cabinets paired with white counters are beautiful! The consultant thought the white in the counter would also go well in our space since all of the trim and doors are painted a crisp white. She thought the subtle grey veins would go well with all the stainless steel appliances and fixtures, and the grey swirls in our floor tile. Friends of ours think we should get a beige counter since our floor tile is beige. Are they right? We love the coarse carrara but don't want to spend lots of $$ if this counter will look very off in our kitchen. We have also seen Cambria Torquay, which is a creamy white that has grey and tans swirls in it, and also like it. Ideas???

A: I've been very happy with the Cambria tops I've done for clients in the past although you need to be aware that the lighter the slabs, the more obvious your seams will be. Also, I would recommend using a tile backsplash that you run full height under the wall cabinets.
After looking at your photos I would take a look at the Cambria New Quay, Bellingham or Windermere with some sort of blended glass tile backsplash.

**Q: Need help to dress up my dining room,am thinking of cream panelling,ra** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I want to dress up my dining room, thinking of cream panelling, radiator covers, rug under the table. What about a new armchair, repositioning furniture, window seat. The black leather chair is the dogs!

A: Adding upholstered cornice boxes over the windows would add some color, texture and drama to the walls without blocking the natural light... just a thought.

**Q: Stainless steel sink or porcelain?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are replacing our countertops with soapstone and I want advice on choosing a new stainless under mount sink, or use the drop in white porcelain one we already have. Any preferences out there?

A: You can't go wrong with a high quality stainless under mount sink. So easy to keep clean & won't ever chip!
Soapstone is one of my favorite materials - if it's good enough for chemistry labs, it's good enough for a kitchen!!

**Q: Need advice for decorating new kitchen / accent color** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My kitchen renovation project is about to wrap up and before I buy new curtains and other decor, I need to settle on the accent color to make it all pop. My painted cabinetry is a glazed cream color, with the cooktop area and refrigerator cabinet being stained instead of painted. The backsplash is a crackled biscuit color. The wall color is Benjamin Moore's bennington gray and the trim color attempts to mimic the painted cabinetry's color. We have new wood floors and a white ceiling as well. The house is mostly decorated with a traditional style. My initial thoughts were daffodil yellow or burnt orange for an accent color; possibly a gray curtain for the sliding glass door. Am I way off? I don't have the natural flair for decorating. Thanks in advance! (Used my computer's camera for the pictures - sorry for the low quality images.)

A: Go into your closet and look at what color is most prevalent... That's a great clue as to what color you'll be most likely to stay in love with for the longest time!

**Q: Room addition - How do I find a designer/architect?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are considering adding an additional bedroom, full bathroom and laundry room over our garage. Would an architect be the best person to contact for this? Do architects do something as small as this or are there others that I should consider?

A: I would start by searching NARI in your area. You can also call your local permit office and see which contractor has been pulling the most permits for the kind of work you're looking to have done. If someone tells you that you don't need a permit...RUN!
