> Darcy's team turned my 700 sq ft house into an acesssible dreamhouse. They worked with me to design and create a wheelchair acessible kitchen and bathroom, as well as converting an office into an upstairs laundryroom. To work with the small spaces in my house, Darcy was creative and thoughtful, managing to fit a beautiful acessible shower into a truly tiny bathroom. In addition to the beautiful work upstairs, Darcy also fixed an ongoing issue with the floors in my house, giving the house new stablity.

**★★★★★ — Gerrie, Feb. 2026**

> They workers were always very professional, clean and went out of their way to make sure I was satisfied. Very dependable and were there when they said they would be. I would recommend them to anyone.

**★★★★★ — Rich G, Jan. 2026**

> Bath remodel: Full bath got new floor, shower and faucet, drywall and toilet. Full and half bath got sinks, medicine cabinets, faucets. Both rooms got high quality paint jobs. Work was finished on time except for one item which had a shipping delay. The Darcy Bean team did a great job of keeping the dust to a minimum, &cleaning up afterwards. Communication was excellent. We have used them before and plan to use them again.

**★★★★★ — Karen, Jan. 2026**

> Darcy and crew designed a bathroom, a new staircase, and a new front porch for us, and built everything. We are thrilled with the work and would easily choose them again.

**★★★★★ — Jenny T, Jan. 2026**

> Darcy was great about communication, and his staff always showed up when they said they would. Our bathroom was just what we wanted - an upscale rethinking of the space. The finishes and work were top quality and we would consider Darcy if we do another remodel project in the future

**★★★★★ — Joe Taylor, Jan. 2026**

> Darcy Bean did a full bathroom remodel for us. They helped us with the design process and helping us pick out something that we would love. They weren't the cheapest, but they did an excellent job. We're super happy with the way the bathroom turned out. Everything was done to the highest standard, and they consulted with us for every decision. The end result is fantastic. I'd happily work with them again and recommend them to anyone looking for a high quality remodel project.

**★★★★★ — Chloe, April 2025**

> Darcy Bean's team did an excellent job on our bedroom/bathroom addition. The project took exactly the amount of time quoted (4 months). Darcy and his team are all friendly and professional - there is a great team of contractors who do sound construction. We appreciated the in-house design and someone in the office was generally available to answer any questions and problem-solve issues throughout the process.

**★★★★★ — Salzmann, March 2025**

> Darcy Bean Custom Construction recently completed a project for us which was physically quite small but required finding solutions to a number of space and other significant constraints. We hoped to be able to add a walk-in shower to our very small downstairs half-bath, which would require bumping out the exterior wall, but we weren’t sure it would even be possible. They worked patiently with us until together we were able to work out a feasible plan for all that we had in mind, within the minimal space available, and without affecting the outside appearance of our 125-year-old house any more than necessary.
> We now have a bright, pleasant, convenient full bath. And neighbors and even strangers continue to comment on what an especially professional job they did in blending the new construction in with the existing exterior, with attention to every detail. They definitely live up to the “custom construction” part of their name.

**★★★★★ — Tatyana Deryugina, March 2024**

> We hired Darcy & his team to renovate our kitchen and replace our porch with a fully integrated sunroom. He did a fantastic job. He's very experienced and very responsive to our needs & feedback. Most importantly, everything was completed in a timely manner, and the work is very high-quality. I highly recommend the company!

**★★★★★ — HU-27254335, Feb. 2024**

> I highly recommend Darcy Bean for your home remodel needs. He remodeled our master bathroom and the outcome is exactly what we envisioned. I especially appreciate the way he thinks outside of the box and adds touches of creativity to his projects. Every guest who has seen our shower comments that it's a spectacular bathroom. Not only was Darcy a pleasure, his crew was very accommodating and went out of their way to be as minimally disruptive to the family home as possible. Thanks, Darcy and Co!

**★★★★★ — Evan Bruno, Jan. 2024**

> We hired Darcy for a redesign of our master bathroom and we couldn’t be happier with the end result. He offers the best quality construction and design you can find in the area. He’s simply the guy for high end projects. He does the obsessing for you, which means no corners will be cut and no details overlooked. He’s personally invested in the final product and he’ll bend over backwards to make sure you’re happy with the final outcome. Highly recommended.

**★★★★★ — Ben Barbieri, Nov. 2023**

> We contacted Mr. Darcy Bean for assistance in remodeling a bathroom. Shortly after, he visited our home to take a look at the project site and asked us questions about the style we had in mind, if any. He presented us with a few choices and has been a great help in coaching us in the selection of the materials and bathroom components. When he moved to the construction phase, he isolated the area so that there was minimal disruption in the rest of the house. Overall, he displayed a great deal of professionalism through the various stages of the project; he is detailed oriented and has a great knowledge of the materials available to complete the work. We are very happy of our interactions with him.

**★★★★★ — Ananda Mudar, Nov. 2023**

> From the time Darcy's team started working on the project, I have seen only quality deliverables until is finished. Darcy and his whole team is very professional and punctual in finishing up activities. Darcy leads the team by example with his work by being meticulous. He has eye for details. Today we are enjoying our remodeled basement. Darcy has proved that he can solve any problems because he and his team took care of various other modifications while working on basement. I fully endorse Darcy for any construction projects. As a matter of fact, I have few follow up projects already lined up for him.

**★★★★★ — Josh Medin, Nov. 2023**

> Darcy manages a skilled team; they are able to do work quickly, efficiently and well, and for a reasonable price. But what really stands out is the customer service-- the company is friendly, works with you to work out what you need, and treats customers with respect and consideration, informing without condescending, and above all is honest about the situation and what can and can't be done. Intend to go back for more!

**★★★★★ — lbailie, Oct. 2022**

> We have a lovely new updated deck with bar and seating around the area. The workmen were efficient, timely and friendly. The end result is a great outdoor living and entertaining space for us. Darcy also had good ideas for fine-tuning and trimming.

**★★★★★ — Mark R, Oct. 2022**

> Darcy Bean Custom Construction completed high-quality re-modeling while dealing with employee challenges and windows arriving with incorrect finish as provided by the vendor. A colleague of mine, who also benefitted from Darcy's work ethic agreed that the 2 P's are important: patience and persistence. I welcome to work with Darcy again with a list of items already provided to him.

**★★★★★ — Jude, Oct. 2022**

> We have hired Darcy Bean Construction for 2 projects & both were done exceptionally well. Great team to work with!

**★★★★★ — HU-727690968, March 2020**

> Darcy Bean designed and built a beautiful and very sturdy addition to our home. A room that can function as a 4 season room if we desire.

**★★★★★ — RICHARD BUZICKY, March 2020**

> Darcy Bean construction was a great group of people to work with from the design stage through construction and completion. They were always very protective of existing structure and always cleaned up as they went along. I am very pleased with the finished product and felt they were very professional throughout the process.

**★★★★★ — Cherri Malik, March 2020**

> I found Darcy and his employees wonderful to work with. Hired them to remodel my condo and screened in my patio. Work was so good I hired Darcy to update the condo we are trying to sell . Since I am 72yrs. old and not rich it was great to find a company that was honest and stands by his work.

**★★★★★ — Terry R, March 2020**

> The combination of Darcy and Jim is unbeatable for quality, considerate, high grade work. I have used Darcy & Co exclusively for my remodeling and major repair projects since 2002. They simply don’t come any better. They have met every completion date and met or exceeded my expectations for quality. They understand clients needs and work incredibly hard to meet them.... even on small projects.

**★★★★★ — Walter Myers, Dec. 2018**

> Hired to repair wood siding. Work was rapidly completed by a very competent two man team. We were very satisfied with repair work.

**★★★★★ — HU-530380826, Nov. 2018**

> Darcy completed both a custom kitchen and a custom bathroom remodel for me. I have loved both spaces every day since they were renovated. Darcy and his crew are a pleasure to work with. They show up on time and they are exceptionally high quality craftsmen. They really paid attention to detail. They weren’t satisfied until the job was completed correctly.

**★★★★★ — Ann Campbell, April 2018**

> Darcy Bean and his crew do great work. Their attention to design details is terrific. They have a great affinity for older homes and complete rehab projects with a sympathetic eye for history and integrity.

**★★★★★ — Elizabeth Innes, March 2018**

> Darcy Bean's company does excellent work. Ours was a remodel that made our space more open concept, plus changed a front porch into living space to increase the size of the dining and living room. He and his workmen were meticulous in terms of footings and making sure the structure was sound. They were also very creative in working around support beams and girders, such as adding in a built-in bookcase and different levels of ceiling, including a vault, which we love because it looks so interesting.
>
> Darcy used very high quality materials, such as windows and doors, which are very energy efficient, and he strove to ensure that our project was air tight and energy efficient.
>
> Darcy was very conscientious in terms of trying to keep us on the target budget we had determined, although it did go over considerably, because of our change orders and extra things we decided to do, such as replace old windows, open up the staircase, etc. All in all, we are extremely pleased with the remodel.
>
> The only con was the length of time the remodel took, which was about five months. During that time, there were some days that no one showed up, which was very frustrating to us. However, I understand that when someone has a business, they must keep everyone working, and so it was necessary to run several projects at once, which meant that sometimes our project was on hold while they worked someplace else. There were also times where the next step required another company to come in and do their portion, which is also understandable that they needed to finish another project first. Since the same thing happened during our bathroom remodel a couple of years ago, I believe it's just the nature of construction nowadays.
>
> The length of time is really the only con...we would highly recommend Darcy Bean as his company does quality work and tries hard to adhere to the client's dreams in terms of what the remodel will look like. We are very happy with the results and very satisfied with the project.

**★★★★★ — Lois Calcagno, March 2018**

> I have asked Darcy Bean Custom Construction to help with updating my home. He and his team are extremely professional, helpful, creative and honest. Any questions I have, they are quick to respond and very accessible. Heather DeLong of his office quickly responds to my questions and requests.

**★★★★★ — Ken Suslick, Nov. 2017**

> Darcy installed a stove hood into a 1965 house that had no kitchen venting. He did a beautiful job that preserved the integrity of the kitchen ceiling. Two years later, still perfect.

**★★★★★ — jwhannum, Nov. 2017**

> Darcy Bean Construction redesigned and updated our kitchen. The work was professionally done, on time, and within our budget. They left the work site clean and neat when the project was complete.

**★★★★★ — eklein927, Sept. 2016**

> We were remodel novices going into our kitchen remodel this summer, but Darcy and his team were patient, informative, and respectful. It was clear from our first meeting that they were experts and we continued to feel secure in the process throughout. We completely remodeled our kitchen which would make anyone feel displaced, but Darcy and Pinky did a great job coming to the job site themselves and communicating well with us. Our kitchen looks incredible and we can't stop commenting on how all of the elements came together wonderfully. We would highly recommend Darcy Bean for a professional experience with a personal edge.

**★★★★★ — cwbullard3, Aug. 2016**

> If you are looking for quality work, look no further than Darcy Bean, Pinky and his team of skilled, trustworthy and considerate craftsmen: Jim, Kurt and James. They built an addition onto our ranch-style home and completely renovated the kitchen. Their attention to detail during the 4 month long project was excellent. We appreciated that they made temporary hinged doorways to keep the rest of our house clean. We liked his choice of subcontractors, especially the builders of our beautiful custom cherry cabinets.
>
> He was also flexible in scheduling around our own subcontractors who were finishing up flooring and plaster work. Darcy impressed us on his first visit, offering creative ideas on structural issues such as how to hide a ceiling beam, concealing the plumbing for a laundry sink and building custom kitchen cabinets flush with the refrigerator.
>
> Yes, the results are as perfect as they appear on his website.

**★★★★★ — dwplath, April 2016**

> No builder is perfect but Darcy and his team come close. For almost 20 years they've worked with us improving our house---3 major projects (room additions, remodels of kitchen and baths, new entry) and several lesser projects. Work always done to exceptionally high standards, including durability. No major repairs needed to date, and when minor corrections are needed Darcy or one of his men will do the work promptly. Their ideas and suggestions have helped during planning, saved us from mistakes. They welcome oddball challenges (e.g. a bamboo ceiling). They have a craftsman's pride in their work, we've had the pleasure of partnering with them. NOTE; HOUZZ demands entering one project date; Darcy has partnered with us numerous times, not just on a single date.

**★★★★★ — kirbymom1976, April 2016**

> We have had Darcy and his company do 2 major projects for us. The first in 2012 was taking one end of an implement shed, adding a concrete floor and converting it to a garage/workshop area with an upstairs storage room. He came in on time and within budget.
>
> He as a contractor had the honesty and integrity to show me why I might want to do something or not do something rather than just spend my money. Example--I had a cool idea for a lift feature to the upstairs storage room. Although he said he would love to use my money and build it because it was "cool" ---did I really want to spend that much money for a feature that in the totality of the project is not worth the expense. I Hate it when reality hits me. I needed a contractor I could trust to tell me what I wouldn't want to hear but needed to know.
> We were pleased with his work on this smaller project and when we bid out the large project we chose Darcy even though he was not the lowest bid. This 2013 project was a remodeling of 600 square feet of existing home including gutting and rebuild of the kitchen along with adding 2 new rooms plus the addition of a first floor Master Bedroom and Bath.
>
> His team was creative in how to accomplish our goals. Again they were Honest and reasoned on where to spend extra money and where to save it elsewhere in the project..
>
> If you want high quality work well done Darcy Bean and company will do the job. Alice and I had Darcy recommended to us and we since have recommended him to a number of friends.---Kevin and Alice Kirby

**★★★★★ — nancy6558, April 2016**

> Darcy Bean has been my "go-to" home improvement professional for the past 25 years. He has remodeled our kitchen, a bath, added a beautiful family room and added custom cabinetry to a small office. His work and that of his subcontractors has always been top-notch in terms of quality and design. Darcy is not only a professional, he has an artistic eye that provides an added dimension to the quality of his work. He also gets things done on time. What more can I say? I strongly recommend Darcy Bean Custom Construction.

**★★★★★ — zumdahl39, April 2016**

> Darcy and his crew have done many projects for us including a whole-house remodel. Darcy and his employees are extremely skillful and very easy to work with. The quality of their workmanship is truly outstanding in every way. Darcy's designs are creative and the results are quite beautiful. Darcy's charges are quite reasonable given the level of expertise exhibited and the magnificence of the results.

**★★★★★ — prairiegourmet, Dec. 2014**

> After exhaustive investigation of Darcy Bean Custom Construction, we knew we'd found the right company to build our new home. His entire staff of employees, designers, and subcontractors were all very professional and friendly. Darcy's attention to detail surpasses any other construction firm in the area. The end result is superior quality construction with a "wow" factor that is definitely his trademark. He was well informed of current building materials and trends, extremely well organized and efficient, and a dream to work with. We highly recommend Darcy and his company.

**★★★★★ — kagni, Oct. 2014**

> We saw Darcy Bean's beautiful addition to our friends house, and asked if he could replace 2nd story windows in our 100 years old house in Urbana with new windows from Pella. Some of the old windows were as old as the house, many had broken glass and were poorly sealed. Many had broken counterweights. We went out of town for a meeting for 2 weeks. When we returned we first thought that nothing happened because there was no sign of any dust etc. In fact, the new windows were installed, and all debris were cleared. After that we asked Darcy to replace the first floor windows. Again, the work his team did was fantastic. The first floor windows are lovely oak and the stain was matched beautifully. Additionally, insulation was significantly improved, because the counterweight space around each window was now insulated. We estimate from our heating bills that the new windows save us 10-20% in heating and cooling energy.

**★★★★★ — judycline54, Oct. 2014**

> Darcy built our dream home in 2000. It is a magnificent piece of work, with many ingenuous ideas and custom additions that add to it's total uniqueness and beauty. The home is close to 4,000 sq ft. It is 2 stories, and has 4 bedrooms with custom closets, 4 and 1/2 baths, an upper level toy room, and a gift wrapping/storage room. The main level has a gorgeous custom kitchen with fireplace, a huge mudroom with utility sink and plenty of storage, a 2 story great room with fireplace and balcony, a beautiful office with French doors, and lovely dining room. The master bedroom is on the main level. The master bedroom and the kitchen have twin bump out bays with French doors that lead onto the patio. The full finished basement is complete with a full bath and has a huge fireplace, and a custom built "dog room", with a raised tub for easy canine bathing, and a walk out door to easily accommodate the comings and goings of pets. There are so many storage closets that even I, a huge pack rat, had empty shelves! The house also is heated and cooled with geo-thermal, with Darcy co-ordinating the installation of the system with the HVAC company. Darcy doesn't build many homes from scratch due to his refusal to lower his standards, and thus his price, as a home is being built. However, this did not deter us, and we were soo fortunate that he decided to take our project on. Yes, it was not a cheap build, however, it still stands today (unfortunately for me, with a new owner) as the standout home in Douglas County, Illinois. The basement was dug on March 2, 2000, and we were moving in on Oct 2nd of 2000. Not only did Darcy and his crew and sub-contractors do superior work, they were very timely with the build.
> Now that I have written about the home that Darcy built for us, I miss it even more than ever. It was a once in a time experience, and the 5 years we lived in the home were the happiest years of my life! So, thank you, Darcy for the experience and the happy memories.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Where could I buy the hallway door?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is the door maple? I need to replace a few damaged doors in my home and this looks like a match. Can you give me any information on how to purchase?

A: This looks like a birch door which would be common for the period of home. We buy Maple interior doors (pre-hung or slabs) from our old fashioned lumber yard as a special order. The Birch slab doors are a stock item in some big box store and the (old fashioned) lumber yards. I hope this helps!

**Q: Pre-planning required for pipe-shelves?** *(in Photo Questions)*

For this project, was the wall opened to add support for these shelves? I'm looking to do something similar in my kitchen and I'm wondering if simply using studs are enough or if the wall needs to be opened to support these shelves. The flanges against the wall are wider than a stud.

A: Hello and thank you for your question. The answer to this can vary depending on how much weight you intend for the shelving to withstand.

**Q: Love the rug, does anyone know which company makes this? Thanks!** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Sorry, I do not know where our client acquired the rug. Ask me about the wood, fine details, LED lighting, stained glass, sliding doors, colors and cabinetry and I can answer them all. Any information regarding; furniture, items on the shelves, rugs, etc., they purchased them after the project was completed.
Thanks for reaching out and asking, I wish there was more information available for you.

**Q: Do you build the cabinets or have a cabinetmaker?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We are about to start a new home build in central Illinois and these are beautiful. I would love to know the craftsman. Thank you.

A: Thank you for contacting us regarding our cabinetry. We take great pride in our work and are always appreciative of positive feedback. We design and install all of our custom cabinetry. Feel free to contact our office if you have any additional questions.
Thank you,
Heather DeLong

**Q: who makes the leather chairs?** *(in Photo Questions)*

are the chairs good for office desk use? i want comfort, back support, recline and leather recommendations?

A: Sorry to say, the chairs are about the only thing we didn't provide in the remodeled space. I will say they are comfy, but not good for a desk. Unfortunately, that's all the information I have.
Darcy
