> My wife and I hired Katie on two occasions during the last decade.  One was to decorate our house, interior from wall colors, to furniture, to light fixtures, to rugs.  The other was to re-envision and remodel  two bathrooms.  Our house was an historic 1912 Prairie style home, which we loved and wanted to respect architecturally, but our tastes in art were somewhat contemporary.  With both jobs, Katie demonstrated an ability to find that aesthetic sweet spot between the old and the new in which each referenced the other in terms of shapes and patterns and colors and materials. It was pretty amazing to witness.  There were times in which she just picked up a pen and paper, sketched something and said, "You need a piece that looks like that."  Then she took the sketch and found an artisan to make it.  Katie is supremely patient.  And her sense of color is quite gifted.  Not splashy and obvious, but subtle and nuanced and richly intelligent.  I learned a lot from her in that regard.  I can't recommend her services enough.

**Q: what kind of rug is this? where is it from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The rug used in the photo was a oriental rug that was borrowed from a local rug shop in East Sacramento. The shop is called Kamran’s Oriental Rug Bazaar. I am not sure on the name of it.

What is manufacture and color of countertops? Thank you

A: The countertop material we used was London Sky by Zodiaq.

Love the tile selections. Can you tell me what kind it is?

The flooring and shower tile we used is a Pinara marble. Not sure where the tile came from the contractor had a resource.

A: Hi Laura, 
The tile that we specified for the project was from Cortopassi Tile & Stone and the name of the tile is AU-TS-100 in matte.

What type of rug? Where to buy?

A: The oriental rug in this photo was borrowed from a local rug shop in East Sacramento. The shop is called Kamran’s Oriental Rug Bazaar. I don't know the name of the rug.

**Q: I am stuck. I don't know what to do next** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I painted the walls white. But I don't know about funiture and placement. Carpet is going away. As is the mess.

A: By painting the whole room white, did that include beams and all wood panelizing? Did you take out the panelizing before painting? Did you paint the stone fireplace and mantle white? I agree the two sofas (if you are keeping them) facing each other centered on the fireplace with coffee table in between.  If you are getting all new furniture, I might suggest a sectional facing the fireplace and the large blank wall. Do a hard surface flooring of stone tile or hardwood same color as beams if they did not get painted (not the fake "hand planed" variety though) Area rug on top....West Elm, Cost Plus have affordable cool options. Mount the TV on the large blank wall next to the sliding doors. Center the TV and put tall bookshelves on either side. Could be the white wall mounted one from CB2 if on a budget. Put an accent chair across from sectional.  The walls in the bar area could be a different color....maybe dark and moody. New light fixture in place of ceiling fan. Remove the brass fireplace screen if you can. And remove those wing walls with the posts on them. No need for those at all.
