I would like to lighten it. A: Hi, This butcher block is natural maple, no stain. There is a Varnique semi gloss finish on it. John Boos uses Varnique EZ-DO Polyurethane Gel-16C, or you can purchase their butcher block oils. Great products. Is your counter maple? Possibly it is dark because it's cherry, walnut or mahogany? Maybe if you can sand down the underside to get to the natural wood, you will know. Most butcher block counters are not stained. A: This is a ceramic tile is manufactured by "Tagina", tile name is TG Warmstones Chocolate 16" x 24". We used a grout that is close to the middle shade of all the colors in the tile itself so it wouldn't stand out too much. It was purchased at Gemini Tile in Middletown NY. My client has two dobermans and needed a floor that was "dog friendly" and easy to maintain. It has been amazing! I hope this is helpful.
