I have 3 young kids...but no mudroom. I'm thinking of making my entry a little more "useful", yet still look nice when you walk through the door. Here are some pics of what it currently looks like. Problem is, I dont have a ton of space. Could a bench and a nice indoor tree (like this pic) possibly work? I'm thinking of getting rid of the chest, and adding a small bench w/ woven baskets underneath. That way the kids can store slippers and shoes and sit on the bench when heading out in the morning to the bus stop. Thoughts? Thanks! A: I am new at looking at these pictures on the web site. Once I tapped the pictures to enlarge them, I realized there is a big difference. You don’t have a lot of space, but more pictures from the entrance door back would be good to have a real feel for you home. A lamp in the entrance is so inviting, but if you have one it needs to be the correct size, decor and so on. But first, decide on the main piece. **Q: help with above bed decor** *(in Before & After)* any ideas as to what would look good above the bed. and side table decor as well. A: It is hard to achieve a balance above the arch. My question to you is, if you add something above the bed, what about the space over the nightstands. My number one advice is to by larger lamps. I would hang art above the night stands perhaps two pictures over each night stand for height and have the bottom picture fall behind the lower lamp, somewhat. I would leave the space above the bed empty so that your attention is drawn to the beautiful design of the headboard. **Q: master bedroom help** *(in Design Dilemma)* Are these bedside tables too small? Lamps too short? A: If you can afford larger nite stands, why not use all the space? If you can get a head board, do it. We are all trying to budget. Even “World Market” has headboards and so does “Tuesday Morning”. It is a matter of timing. The headboard could be fabric, leather, woven, wood, etc. Definitely, purchase new matching lamps. If you are on a budget, Home Good’s has lamps, but you need a pair. The nice thing about buying from them is that you can try it for size and if they aren’t perfect, you can return them. At least you will know what size looks best. Accessorizing, the finishing touches, can be the hardest to do and the most stressful. It can make or break a room. If you keep the tables, why not consider a woven reed over the window that matches the nite tables. Hang the woven reed well above the window for height at least 10” if you have it. I can’t see the height of the ceiling. In addition, add drapery panels on the sides that go off the window and behind the tables. This will make the room look bigger. They don’t have to be a solid white, since the walls aren’t, you could add a pattern. Decide where to pay the most money for the best overall look and budget else where. **Q: Please help with decor, curtains!** *(in Design Dilemma)* I’m new to this site, an horrible with decorating and to be honest not very go with computers but hey I will try my best.... OK, I am at a loss of what to do as far as window treatments goes for my dining room and decor. The home is an open floor plan, he loves rustic & I like classy, elegant, Mediterranean style if that makes much sense..... It also pops out with windows on other side of room which you see in picture. Who can help me tackle this I’m open to all suggestions!!! Can’t wait to have before and after pictures. You will find that it will be worth while. There is a lot that can be done. The advice of woven reeds are really good in some of the areas and single paneled drapes on the sides soften the look. Your home has dark heavy furniture so you want the window treatments to balance it, not going too light in color. With woven reeds, you will be able to see out, yet add texture to the windows. There are lots of selection available to you. But, do yourself a favor. Have a designer come out. If you are worried about a large bill tell the designer you will pay for an hour consultation. Then see if you want to do more. **Q: Do these elements work together?** *(in Design Dilemma)* I ordered a teal sectional, small grey arm chairs and this colorful rug. Existing walls are grey and curtains are orange. I'm second guessing and it's not too late to cancel the chairs and rug. The teal pillow in this pic is the same fabric that the sectional is being made from. A: Artiesmama, there are a lot of comments to read. Has anyone suggested that you turn the rug? It is sometimes hard to give advice without being in person, but I think it might work better. The rug is great. Your woven blinds are perfect, just lower them a little. You do need to have chairs that are to scale and warmer colors, even leather or faux leather would work. Try warm browns, or a deep rust.
