Some great new ideas were thrown our way that we ended up going with. The basement was started in November 2014 and 99% finished the first week of January 2015. From January 2015 until now May 1, 2016 we have had very little communication with Creative Spaces in attempts to have them come complete the work. Unfortunately we paid the final sum after the majority of the work was completed as what was left was minimal and depended on a variance which was assured could be obtained. To date (May 1, 2016) we have received 5 notices of variance reviews in Greece, NY. Creative Spaces did not attend any and we recently received a denial letter for our variance. The variance was for a stairwell railing going into the basement not being continuous. The lower half of the stairwell has a custom metal railing that was fabricated. The top half has a standard railing. There is no railing on the other side. Code requires a continuous railing. This is the first issue. The second is the flooring (pergo) started buckling in 3 locations. Upon investigation, the installer did not leave a gap under the molding to allow for expansion and contraction in the cold and hot months. This is flooring 101! The third issue is electrical related. The electrician spliced existing cabling within the circuit breaker box to connect to. There was also a splice made from an existing circuit that goes up into the living room, an outlet was installed off of it to save on romex cabling costs to run maybe 20 ft at most. This splice was done with wire nuts, not in work boxes and then pushed under insulation above the drop ceiling. It was hidden and only found while we were adding insulation into the corners of the basement above the ceiling. Another electrical snafu was that we had an existing 20amp circuit that we wanted another outlet installed off of and provided the outlet for this. When the work was nearing completion, we found that not only was that outlet a 15amp, but it wasn't on that circuit. Which would have been fine, but where we had 20amp outlet already, was replaced with a 15amp outlet... ON A 20 AMP CIRCUIT. This is electrical 101! The work looks great for the most part, but it's the behind the scenes you need to be careful about. With all of this, Creative Spaces has not been returning repeated phone calls/voicemails or emails regarding our three outstanding issues - 1. Railing not meeting code and now variance finally denied, 2. Flooring buckling and now physically broken due to this, and 3. Unsafe electrical work. There are others in our neighborhood that have some of these same issues. One who had a small fire in their electrical panel due to improper compliance with code and another with the same railing not meeting code. All of these issues could have been easily remedied and we were told they were going to be, but this has carried on for almost a year and half now after we made our final payment. **★★★★★ — mpanessa, Nov. 2014** > We contracted with Creative Spaces of Rochester to create an island in our front yard. The Martini Family. **★ — cbostley, Nov. 2013** > Kitchen remodel was a disaster latent with mistake on top of mistake. Ordered wrong size upper cabinets and proceeded to install anyway. We purchased solid wood cabinets and Andrew installed particle board with only solid fronts. Cabinets were not level and had light leaks throughout. Trim quality was horrendous. Andrew was rarely on the job and showed up for only a few minutes every morning but does not do any work. This contractor did not pay his subs so they failed to return. After calling in our own connections to help, Andrew failed to pay them. > Only half of our countertop is installed and he will not pay the countertop company their 7,000 either. After 7 weeks, we had enough and fired Andrew. We ended up paying him 53,000 which was just shy of the full contract amount and have a mediocre/half done kitchen at best. We have hired a new contractor to come in and clean up his mess.
