**★★★★★ — G. Christianson Construction, Inc., March 2017**

> Jan listened to what we wanted in our Passive House custom home, he brought together a team of experts and was willing to start with our initial design. He came through every time when we needed advice, and brought his experience in building to the unique challenges of this project. My wife and I would hire him again tomorrow if we had another home to build. His team put together a beautiful home for us. They were expensive, but we asked a lot more from his team than most projects do. I think he is the only Architect, in the Eugene area, with the experience and passion to build our Passive Home (the first in Corvallis).

## Community Q&A

**Q: Glulams?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Are the beams above glulams?

A: Yes

**Q: Does the wood on ceiling have any finish on it?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Yes. Standard wood finish.

**Q: love that tub surround** *(in Photo Questions)*

How did you make it? Is that veneered plywood or real wood, and what sort of finish did you use? It looks amazing!

A: solid white oak with marine varnish

**Q: Great doors! How were they made?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Doors look like they're made from 1x6 t&g pine. How are the boards held together and made rigid? Thanks!

A: The doors were built out of 19 pieces of left-over 2x6 T&G Select Hemlock-Fir decking from the roof/ceiling construction. The pieces were glued (clamped) together, then a 3/4" deep vertical kerf was cut into the back (the side that is not visible in the photos) a few inches from the two vertical edges of the door. The short leg of a 3/4" x 1" steel angle was inserted into the kerf; the 1" leg of the steel angle, laying flat against the wood, had 19 holes at 5.5" spacings, each hole with one screw into each of the 19 pieces of wood. Then the wheeled hardware was bolted to the top (close to the two steel angles, for most strength and durability).

**Q: Love the windows! Where are they from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Kolbe.

**Q: Is this stained concrete?** *(in Photo Questions)*

How did you get grey and tan color mixture?

A: No. natural gray, finished with a somewhat swirly hand. the setting sun helps the coloring.
