> Thanks to a referral from the IKEA staff where we did some preliminary design work for a kitchen remodel, we contacted Assembly Squad.  A most satisfying adventure began as they also put us in touch with Flat Pack Kitchen Design who helped us finalize our plans and accessories. Assembly Squad then moved into action, ordering all needed supplies, coming to our condo to see the scope of the job and what they would need to do in a fully lived in space. An ambitious timeline was set with the caution that a number of factors could push the completion date out days or weeks. While getting the last needed items proved a bit of a challenge, all was ready by demo day.
> The two gentlemen who came to demo our kitchen prepped the space well with cardboard and heavy paper, expertly moved appliances and demoed the kitchen, removing all debris and broom cleaning the site. The following Monday, two different gentlemen began hanging the rails and assembling/hanging the cabinets. Progress was swift and beautifully done. Late in that week, measurements were taken for the quartz countertops. Work continued the following week, and that Tuesday, the countertops were installed. Wednesday, the backsplash was installed and by Friday, all was complete.

> After hearing great things about IKEA kitchens, and equally horrific stories about order fulfillment and installation headaches, I called Assembly Squad.  Their reviews indicate that they know what they are doing, and was that ever true!  They took the time to meet with me very early in the process and gave me lots of great ideas to improve both look and functionality of my kitchen,  and even put me on to a great design firm that specializes in IKEA kitchens, IKD (www.inspiredkitchendesign.com).  We were expanding our kitchen and wanted to make the most of the added space, and between the real-world experience of Assembly Squad and knowledgeable design team at IKD, it was a great experience.  It is easy to see how things could have gotten off track at many points along the way.  Assembly Squad helped us avoid any major hassles; they kept in touch as we got through the design process, and given their clear dedication to our project and the good advice we got early on, we went with them.  They were not the lowest bid we received, or the highest, but we were glad we chose them!  The installation part of the project took a whole week, which was one day longer than expected, but it was worth the wait!  The cabinets looked beautiful, and the crew was respectful, efficient, and cleaned up after themselves every day.  They also helped me get all the appliances in place and ready for connection.  I can't say enough good things about this professional company.  They did a great job, and I would recommend them.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Keep the Peninsula or Switch to Double Islands? Need Advice!** *(in Kitchens)*

We finally signed off on our cabinet order; it's in production so I can't make any major changes. But I still have one nagging concern about our beach house kitchen layout. Our design has a center island, where most prep will be done and a peninsula, where people hang out with drinks, computers etc and have light meals/snacks. I like this layout because it keeps the riff raff and their clutter out of my way while I cook but I can still socialize with everyone. The problem is that in order to take food outside to cook or eat, one has to walk around the peninsula to get to the sliders that lead to the back porch. 
I'm wondering if we would be better off turning the peninsula into a second island, to create better flow. I can still use the cabinets that I ordered; they would just need to be rearranged. Can someone help me choose the best option? And if two islands is the way to go, do they have to be the same size? I'd prefer the second one to be a little narrower but I don't know if that would look unbalanced. TIA!
Note: The layouts below are not perfectly to scale. The aisles are all 45" or more and the cabinets don't really butt right up to the sliders.

A: Have you considered a single larger island, combining all the functionality - seating on the two out-sides, sink, baking, storage, etc.?  This improves the access, opens up the space, and provides for a truly dramatic central gathering place.
