Need help..** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hello, So I initially I was thinking a dark gray but I came across some beautiful dark teal colors. And I really want a dark, dramatic color for my bedroom. It is west facing and gets pretty good light. The furniture will stay. I really like these curtains (below) I can paint the lamp bases gold or silver or maybe a pearly white, I want to add art or gold framed wall decor. Please help with any suggestions on everything and on dark teal paint colors and if you have pictures of your own dark teal bedrooms please share! The dark teal painted swatch in my picture below is from Ocean Abyss from Behr... A: You should try painting just the wall behind your bed to start. This will give you a feel for the color and if you love it you can go for the whole room. **Q: Matching or coordinating accent chairs?** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are a few weeks into living in our new construction house and have finally made some progress on new furniture. We are keeping the dark leather sofa (I know it's dark and oversized but it's extremely comfortable and durable, and we like that with two young kids). We will be getting rid of the leather chair and replacing it with a cream loveseat (see below). We plan to order two accent chairs, which will go where the Christmas tree currently is. A small table will go between the two accent chairs, additional end tables + lamps will be added after the furniture comes in. The TV is being upgraded to a larger size and will sit just above a barn door media console. QUESTIONS: 1\. I'm debating on getting either A) two of the white/gray striped accent chairs OR B) one white/gray striped chair and one of the darker grey chairs with the lighter white accents 2\. Need area rug recommendations 3\. Was thinking about getting a white barn door media console and staining the top to match the mantle - but after some other feedback, I'm second guessing the white. I thought it would pull in the white from the kitchen cabinets but perhaps too stark? CURRENT SPACE - view \#1 CURRENT SPACE - view \#2 PROPOSED LIVING ROOM SET (loveseat + 2 accent chairs) BARN DOOR MEDIA CONSOLE (debating on white or another color; top will match mantle) A: You should do matching chairs. The space is not that big and it would bring order to it. You can choose a fun pattern and bring the color palette to some pillows for the sofa to make it all flow. If you are putting the sofa on the wall by the window make sure to use sun friendly fabrics. Your home is beautiful. **Q: paint cabinets a creamy white? or reface to a cherry?-PLEASE SEE THE OVERVIEW PICTURE BELOW** *(in Design Dilemma)* I would like to make this kitchen seem less busy and more inviting. Here are the current plans: remove the backsplash, change the black refrigerator to stainless steel flush, change range hood to stainless/updated Questions: 1- Do we reface the cabinets to a cherry to contrast the floor and counter? or do we paint them an off white to brighten the room (but will this be too mono chromoatic??). In either case, do we make all of the cabinets the same color - I would like to break up all of that brown! 2-Do we remove the soffits and add trim above the cabinets to refresh the look? What is a good way to finish this look? 3-Do we make the eating area a built in seat in the bay and push the table up to the window, adding flowing curtains to make an eating nook? 4-how do we warm up the eating area and the two bare walls? add a wine bar and serving area? if so, what color material? A: You can cantilever the banquet so that the heaters won't be an issue. Love the idea of roman shades on the windows and try a fun bubble chandelier. Paint the cabinets a bright white and get rid of the arches and have those squared off for a more modern feel. Get rid of the soffit and frame that up to the ceiling. You can even add glass cabinets where the soffit was for some drama. A soft gray for the walls will update the look and be a nice neutral to work with for your fabrics. You might want to replace the table and chairs when you do the banquet. If you wanted to paint the lower cabinets a different color that would be fun and get some nice pulls for them.
