> Our young family of four moved from the city to renovate our dream home in the country. We bought a small home built in 1901 that had been renovated for resale but was missing all of its original charm. In need of an architect, a coworker recommend that we reach out to Tim saying we would not be disappointed. Tim and the Clites team of architects are talented, detail oriented, extremely knowledgable and experienced in renovating old homes and most importantly, were thoughtful of our budget constraints and unique design ideas. We could not be happier with our new old farmhouse and would recommend Clites Architects in a heartbeat. - Anne Marie \| The Plains, VA

**★★★★★ — Diana Reuter-Twining Sculpture, March 2014**

> I have known Tim for almost five years and together we have collaborated on several large residential projects. The one which stands out in my mind is a project which called for a year's work of research into the colonial architecture of Argentina. His ability to assimilate that information and translate that into a stunning design using 21st century technology is an example of why I chose him. Beyond that, however, is Tim's personality which makes these collaborations something I thoroughly enjoy. He is a team player who encourages each member of the team to contribute their knowledge and point of view. The results are always the richer because of it. John Barr, a member of Tim's team adds to this experience through his meticulous attention to detail. I highly recommend Tim and look forward to talking further with anyone who is considering him for a future project.

> After years of thinking about renovating our kitchen and making a modest addition to our very old farmhouse we still couldn't see see a solution to make everything really function for us. We knew we needed an architect. Our kitchen needed more storage and functionality, but we also needed a mud room, a laundry/dairy room for the farm and wool business and wanted to add a bathroom on the first floor.
>
> Clites Architects (Tim primarily) listened to what we needed and came up with a floor plan that surprised us, and solved all of the problems. It was really exciting…and just a little too big and too much for the little farmhouse. So, Clites revised it for size and cost and continued to work with us to refine the design so it worked perfectly. It's both practical and beautiful and it blends seamlessly with the farmhouse; it feels integral and as if it was always intended to be this way. The exterior not only doesn't look stuck on, it improves and completes the house.
>
> Clites helped us select a builder/contractor and then (as we chose) stayed minimally involved, being available as needed and keeping a higher altitude overview of the project. The building of the addition ran into many difficulties along the way, as can be expected with most projects, but even more so with a 1790 farmhouse. Then when we discovered the builder had a financial problem that was threatening to prevent completion and double cost, Clites jumped in and helped us work with the builder and sub-contractors to get the project completed and everyone financially satisfied.
>
> It's been finished over a year now and we still are basking in how much we love it and how it completely changed (improved) how we work and move in the house. It was a pleasure working with Clites. I highly recommend them!

**★★★★★ — Bean Carroll, March 2014**

> My husband and I hired Clites Architects to renovate our second home and make it a home where everyone in the family would want to gather at different times of the year. Tim and John listened to all our ideas about how we wanted the house to work for us. They were very receptive to all our ideas and were able to incorporate all that we wanted with the result being a great family house with wonderful appointments. We highly recommend Clites Architects.

**★★★★★ — Dick Clites, May 2013**

> Clites Architects designed a multi-story garage to be added to my 30 year old home. Impeccable attention to detail allowed this addition to my property to be fully integrated into the existing environment. The landscaping was barely finished when friends commented that it appears as though it was part of the original home.

  - Location: Not specified
  - Photos: 13
  - Description: The owners of a 250-acre farm had a question at every meeting, “Is there anything we can make smaller, which would also make the house better?” This question became the driving force in design decisions. Ultimately, the addition to this historic farmhouse was half the size of the initial sketches while still fulfilling the program. We preserved the oldest structure while adding modern kitchen and support spaces on the main floor and a master suite and home office on the second floor. The rooms w…

  - Description: The owners had a desire to live in an Argentine Estancia similar to one they visited on their travels. We selected the period around 1875 as our 'ideal' time period for the massing, details, courtyards, and master plan. The property has an adjacent equestrian barn, saddling barn, tack building, dog kennels, and finally a small chapel. It is a wonderful retreat for owners who want to enjoy the lifestyle of a period long since past. Meghann Padgett Photography and Film

  - Description: Our clients bought a property outside of Purcellville, Virginia with a house built in the 1990's and the intention of renovating it more to their liking. After careful review of the home and requested changes, it was determined to be more cost effective to build a new home on the existing foundation. We designed a bungalow style house with period inspired details that would make the home true to its era. A sunroom was situated in the rear of the home nestled in the trees giving the neighboring k…

  - Description: Located outside Marshall, VA, the owner needed a new space for entertaining, an art gallery, office, and a dance floor. The dramatic ceiling and architectural details create a wonderfully grand space that is pleasantly detailed. The inglenook creates a private area for more intimate gatherings. Garden views, water features, middle eastern inspired rooflines and a herringbone floor all add to the unique space. Photography: Angie Seckinger

  - Description: The owners purchased a historic log cabin to repurpose on their property as a multi-use space. Uses include private movie screening, meeting space for philanthropic work, a space for intimate parties, and the ability for occasional overnight guests. In keeping with the log structure, most details come from an authentic approach to material, proportion, finish, and texture. The occasional piece of art, or the modern Corten steel bar provide a hint of whimsy that reflects the clients personalities…

  - Description: The existing stone cottage worked well, but lacked a mudroom entry and a gathering room. Given the site access to the lower level, we made that the enhanced mudroom.
