> We've collaborated with Sturgis Materials on multiple projects and found them to be incredibly knowledgeable and helpful in both the design and material selection. Their knowledge when it comes to what stones should be used where and the best stone for a given application is top notch. They have a large stone yard and can do just about anything in their fabrication shop. They have become our go to stone yard for these reasons.

> Sturgis Materials provided the Indiana Limestone for a Pool Deck on a pool and outdoor kitchen project we were doing. They were very professional and their customer service was impeccable. After we had the limestone deck put in by D & D Masonry, we decided that we wanted Indiana Limestone for the face of a wall that we had built. We had TJ order in limestone tile to match the decking. We did have some problems with the limestone tile for the wall, but they were quick to get it taken care of.

Matt Lonesk, his father Marc and all their expert fabrication staff have impressed me with their passion for stone. Additionally they have deep experience in taking any requirement and making all the moving parts seem quite easy. I will work with them anytime they choose and I recommend them for any natural stone need.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Exterior stone veneer** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are planning to use stone veneer on outside fireplaces and the foundation. Can someone offer advice? We like El
Dorado Stone but our builder is suggesting Best Stoneworks. Anyone have advice as to what is the best brand to use? Has anyone had problems with either stone? Thank you very much!

A: If you're looking for a long-term application, then we'd suggest only using natural stone, and not pre-cast products like El Dorado or Best Stoneworks are. These products are just concrete with coloring agents used to mimic stone. Over time, they tend to fade and fail. Only Natural Stone (with proper installation) will stand the test of time. I'd also recommend for around your foundation using full thickness 4" veneer as opposed to a thin veneer. The best place to call in your area would be Rolling Rock Building Stone in Boyertown, PA. You could also try Luck Stone in Jessup, MD. Good luck!

**Q: What companies sell a see through wood burning fireplace?** *(in Photo Questions)*

We would really like a wood burning stove that opens in two rooms and you could see through??

A: This one you see here was custom made by the stone mason.

**Q: Limestone** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you please share with me the name of the limestone product you used for the bench seat ? And where to find it?

A: The bench seat, or cap stone is Indiana Limestone supplied by Sturgis Materials.

**Q: How much would all this stone, etc. weight?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: There's between 20 and 25 tons of full bed depth veneer stone in this fireplace.

**Q: Where do purchase Strugis pavers?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I have a rain drainage problem around garage and back porch

A: For international inquiries, you should call the manufacturer located in Vancouver, WA USA. Go to www.xeripave.com for more info.

**Q: Potential installation problem?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love this, but I think the tendency is to put it on top of concrete. In our part of the country that would be an invitation to disaster as the water underneath would heave it and break it.
How should the soil underneath be prepared?

A: With the Xeripave Super Pervious Pavers seen here you would need to put them on a clean crushed rock base that is typically 4" - 6" in depth to give space for the water to collect during a rainstorm before it absorbs into the subsoil. If your soil is more clay based, you may want to go a little deeper than that. Use a 3/4" clean crushed rock for the base, lay down a sheet of filter fabric, then do your top layer in 1/2" clean crushed rock. Make sure that is all very well compacted, then lay your Xeripavers on top and compact again using a piece of plywood between the compactor and the pavers. There's more info on our website at www.perviouspaving.com.
