### Reviews

**★★★★ — A S, April 2021**

> The team at Architectural Craftsmen was very reliable and focused on doing high quality work. Our project was completed on time and on budget which is rare when working with contractors! Both Joe and Mary really enjoy the work that they do and were dedicated to our project throughout. We would absolutely recommend Architectural Craftsmen to others looking to complete a renovation project on their home.

**Comment from Architectural Craftsmen:**

> Thank you so much for your review, A. We really enjoyed working with you on your project. It was such a huge makeover - especially the new second floor! We hope you will enjoy it for many years to come!

**★★★★★ — Lili Shank, Jan. 2021**

> If you are fortunate enough to work with the team at Architectural Craftsmen, you can rest assured you're in good hands. You've got the best. Joe, Mary & Elliot (our lead carpenter) first saw us through a master bath remodel in 2019. Their expertise, attention to detail, fine craftsmanship and good communication skills ensured the process proceeded smoothly. The finished master bath is beautiful! They provided useful input along the way that prevented problems down the road. They care about quality and doing it right. They are fair and honest and exemplary individuals. Their professional guidance helped me navigate many decisions and land on the right answer.
>
> We hired them again in 2020 to remodel two additional bathrooms that were original to our 1940s home. They were willing to help us save the original tile floor and bathtub in one bathroom, while gutting everything else around it. They know old house preservation as well as new construction. They are well organized and kept me up to date on my project. My only hesitation in writing a review is I won't be able to get them for my next project as they'll be booked out for many months, if not years:-).

**Comment from Architectural Craftsmen:**

> Thank you so much, Lili. It was a pleasure working with you to update your bathrooms. We love that you wanted to save the period tile in the "kids" bathroom. We agree that Elliot is meticulous about the details. He's a true craftsman and we're fortunate to have him on our team.

**★★★★★ — Lisa McElwee, June 2017**

> We can't say enough good about Mary, Joe, Tony and the rest of the crew. We found them on Houzz, by chance. Basically, we threw a dart and landed in the bullseye. I know they are proficient in new home remodel etc...but they SHINE in Historic remodels. Ours is the historic craftsmen house remodel featured here. You literally cannot tell the new from the original. They have the resources, the talent and the attention to detail needed when it really counts. Probably the most frightening part of hiring a contractor was knowing if we could trust them (w/ money, skill, timeliness etc). From the first time you meet Joe & Mary, you will know...THEY ARE AS GOOD AS GOLD AND THE MOST TRUSTWORTHY team you'll ever meet. You can trust what they say. Their ethics are exemplary! They finished our projects a few years back (and have been working on neighbors projects since!), but they could still keep the key to our home and come and go as they wanted(not that they would)...that's how much we trust them. Their lead man, Tony... what a jewel. He is a hard worker and as honest and talented as it gets.

**Comment from Architectural Craftsmen:**

> Wow, Lisa! Thank you so much for that GLOWING review! We're so grateful that you found us and entrusted us with your beautiful home. Glad we were able to discover its soul and breathe new life into it.

**★★★★★ — DJ McEwen, Dec. 2016**

> As most of you know remodeling is not a painless process but Mary and Joe did their best to help make the process less painful for us. They worked with us on the plans until we got the layout that we liked for the area we have, it took a few tweaks to accomplish what all we wanted in our basement along with it all being wheelchair accessible.
> We wanted a Victorian/Rustic feel to our basement and they helped us achieve this unusual combination of styles. To help keep the rustic feel going we had them paint the ceiling in a warm chocolate brown. We added a bathroom that has a “spa” feel to it, we had the tile floor heated and a zero entry shower. The countertop for the kitchenette was made by Joe and is made from slabs of wood (we got to select the wood pieces with Joe’s help…the slabs are made from trees that were cut down in our area of town) with a live edge. We enjoy entertaining in our basement and our happy we have an area in our home to do this. Thank you Architectural Craftsman for a beautiful basement.

> Architectural Craftsmen were selected after a series of interviews and meetings with local contractors. While down to earth and friendly they were also the most professional contractors we interviewed. Their schedule was very busy so work started was about 3 months after initial meeting. This was a mutual decision and they started on schedule. Very diligent in the performance of the project (master bath remodel) and very good about protecting the rest of the house during construction. Absolutely no damage occurred to any part of the home they had to pass through to accomplish the project. Mary was excellent to work with in figuring out a design and finishes that met our taste. Joe and Crew also performed excellently to complete the work on time. No surprises, so while there was "down time" waiting for shipments we added our other two bathrooms to the project and these to were completed in excellent fashion. Would highly recommend this company to anyone in the area.

**★★★★★ — zilagang, Jan. 2014**

> Joe Thompson and his crew of Architectural Craftsmen did a great job for us on a complete remodel of our upstairs main bathroom. The room was taken down to the studs, a wall moved to accommodate a larger spa tub and was re-plumbed to a 2-sink configuration. His crew was great about keeping the mess to a minimum as demolition and construction was in progress, and he was very receptive to slight changes we requested along the way. Mary helped us figure out what our needs and wants were with this remodel and assisted us in choosing the tile, fixtures, cabinetry and countertops with great advice and guidance in the process. They were very aware of budget constraints and in keeping that target in mind. We are very satisfied with the quality of workmanship, price and how our new bathroom looks and functions.

**★★★★ — Karen Lamartina, Jan. 2014**

> Architectural Craftsmen was our contractor for a new master bedroom/bath suite. They also converted an old full bath into a beautiful powder room. Working with Mary and Joe made the process very simple. Mary was great to meet with me at the various suppliers, helping me to sort out all the myriad of choices when it comes to a project like this. Their workers were courteous and professional and the job was completed to our satisfaction! I would (and have) recommended them to others who are considering renovations.

**★★★★★ — gsduggan, Jan. 2014**

> Joe has done many projects for us and we are always more than happy with the completed job. His work is perfection. Joe is professional, honest, punctual and a true craftsman. I would not hesitate recommending Joe.

**★★★★★ — rholo, Aug. 2013**

> I have worked with Architectural Craftsmen and found them to be extremely professional and proficient at what they do.They are a husband and wife home improvement team. They have excellent comunication skills and as a result their projects are well organized and flawless. I highly recommend using Architectural Craftsmen if you are considering a home improvement project

**★★★★★ — pkoganinteriordesign, June 2013**

> Architectural Craftsmen are willing to tackle most anything and finish it well. Attention to detail seems to be very important to them and the end results were always well done. The finish work was as good as any remodeler I've worked with. Nothing skipped or skimped on! Very willing to listen to my suggestions and ideas and incorporate them in the project.

**★★★★★ — High Performance Homes, LLC, June 2013**

> I have worked for Joe and Mary at Architectural Craftsmen on a few projects and I could not have been more pleased. They are experts at maintaining an efficient and organized job site while adjusting to their clients' wishes. Their design work and implementation are second to none and their customers' satisfaction speaks for itself.
>
> I look forward to a long relationship with Architectural Craftsmen.

**★★★★★ — Karen Mills, March 2013**

> We have been a client of Architectural Craftsmen for more than a decade! After designing and building a large new deck onto the back of our home in October 2001, we hired Architectural Craftsmen to remove 2 large (floor to ceiling) windows and install a new custom sliding glass door with a transom in thier place in the spring of 2004.
>
> By putting a door from our great room to the large deck, we now have much better flow for entertaining and much improved ventilation for those days when you do not need (nor want) to run the air conditioner!
>
> Joe and his team also installed tile in our master bath the following year. It was a huge imrovement over the builders' standard carpeting! We plan to do a major remodel of our master bath in a couple of years, and will definately look to Architectural Craftsmen for ideas and construction!

 - Description: The original Victorian home built cir. 1890 suffered a total loss to a fire in September of 2019. The homeowners committed to rebuilding the same house in its place. We designed the new home with the historic elements - the turret, the wrap-around porch, the scalloped shingle siding, window and door trim, etc. - but made some changes in the floorplan to fit today's family lifestyle. Moving the turret to the corner created a space for the family's music room. The baby grand piano fills the space…

 - Description: This 1906 three-story Colonial Revival home's kitchen and added-on family room didn't serve the homeowners lifestyle. They wanted to make both spaces feel like one big room, but the 18" thick structural brick wall stood in the way. We opened up the wall which is now supported by steel posts and beams and wrapped in quarter-sawn oak to blend with the home's existing woodwork.

The 6-ft. double slipper soaking tub provides plenty of room for relaxation. Accessories find their places tucked away in the custom vanity pullouts. Toe-kick LED lighting softly illuminates at night and the in-floor heating is programmed to warm your first steps in the morning. - Description: The second floor room arrangement wasn't working for this family. The master bedroom had no en suite bathroom and Mom and Dad were forced to share a very outdated bathroom with their toddler son. While the teenage girls shared another bathroom, the laundry took up what could be a bedroom. Now the master suite hints at a Moroccan oasis, with a gorgeous deep blue, teal and bronze tiles, generous sitting room and a cozy bedroom. After the whole second floor has been remodeled, everyone is happy wit…

## Community Q&A

**Q: tile for shower and floor** *(in Photo Questions)*

what product and color tile was used for floors and shower?

A: Thank you for asking! The tile we used in this primary bathroom is Iris porcelain:Carrara Paonazzo
Main floor: 12x24
Shower floor: 2x2
Shower Walls: 4x12

**Q: Window** *(in Photo Questions)*

I need to replace my window with more privacy. Where can I order a window like this?

A: This window already existed in the bathroom before the remodel. I recommend that you talk to a window replacement company about your situation. There are other solutions available in wet environments and options for obscured glass for privacy. Good luck with your project!

**Q: I need that floor tile, HELP!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Any idea where this floor tile came from?

A: My records say we used Seneca Tile 4" hex in Deep Sea Blue. Go to SenecaTiles.com and you should be able to find a local showroom.

Good luck! And I'm glad you like it! It was a fun project to do.
Mary Thompson CR, CRPM, UDCP

**Q: Where are the light fixtures from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I love the lights, they’re exactly what I’m looking. The kitchen is beautiful.

A: The lights are from La Viva Home in NYC, an amazing company. They are made to order in Spain.

**Q: Would you share what are the paint colors for both cabinet and walks?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi Marlee, Thanks for your interest! The cabinets are Sherwin Williams Serious Gray and the walls are Benjamin Moore White Dove. Good luck with your project!

-Mary

**Q: 12 x 24 Tile** *(in Photo Questions)*

Who is the manufacture and color of the tub surround tile? Thanks!

A: Thanks for your interest! It's a 9x18 porcelain tile by Florida Tile, Marquis in Carrara. I really like the subtle gray in it.
