Matt spent a lot of time with us and even built a clay model to make sure we knew what we were getting.  It really is a work of art and exceeded all my expectations. > We purchased a home and undertook a major remodel and landscaping project in 2004.  We are situated on a hill with panoramic views of Mount Diablo, but the exterior then offered little else other than the view.  To take advantage of the setting, we decided to put in an infinity edge pool and wanted also to supplement that with a significant water feature.  A major constraint emerged quickly – given our hill and the steepness of our road, we would have an exceedingly difficult time getting large rock boulders to the site.  That’s when we were referred to Matt Wilson – a specialist in man-made landscapes.  We checked out his portfolio and decided to proceed.

> The process involved first making a table sized clay model of the project.  The “rocks” consisted of concrete/fiberglass panels that were created from molds of real boulders.  Following the clay model, these were wired together and then completely filled with concrete.  The joints were “carved” while the cement was still wet, and the result was a rock formation that looked as natural as the real thing.  Initially, the total project was sort of “in your face”.  This was anticipated and was mitigated by building in planting locations throughout, all plumbed for irrigation and drainage.  Within six months, the hardscape retreated behind the all the trees, plants, and vines.
