**Q: MDL780** *(in Photo Questions)*

What kind of siding or wood finish is this..tks

A: Unfortunately I can't give you an answer.  This project was with my previous firm -- Guenzi-Vargas Studios in Savannah, GA and I didn't make the material selections myself.  Wish I could be more help!

**Q: galley kitchen** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have a very simple galley kitchen I would like to remodel with little money. Do you have any suggestions? The appliances are white and in very good conditions, so I do not plan to change them (I bought the gas stove last week). there are two big windows which provide plenty of light. The cabinets are very simple and white, but a bit dated. I just need some ideas. Thanks

A: Open shelves are a great option for replacing upper cabinets.  They can save you some money and also help the kicthen feel more open since its a galley style.  You could use them in just once section or as many places as you want.  It depends on how you'll use that storage and how realistic you think it is to keep them neat and organized...they're great for cute dishes or glassware that you'd like to display.

**Q: Is this pendant too big for this room?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My wife and I are putting this room together and we added a drum shade pendant last night. I think it looks just right but my wife is of the opinion that it is too big. 

As always, I am very grateful for your expertise and opinions. Please feel free to comment on any other aspect of the room. This is the keeping room off of our kitchen.

A: I actually love it!  It is a little on the big side, but I think that's what I love about it.  It makes a statement.  I think you'll find that once the room is filled more proportionately with furniture, the light fixture won't overwhelm so much, but will still stand out.

**Q: Can I mix dark and light woods with bedroom furniture?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I've always kept to headboards and bedroom furniture within the same tone- but can I mix light and dark woods?  For example, I have a headboard in espresso? What about mixing it with Resto Hardware natural or distressed coffee?

A: Yes...definitely!  Mix it up!  The distressed coffee is a great finish and would mix well with an espresso finish.  I would avoid using too many different wood finishes unless you're going for a very eclectic style (it can be tricky to get right), but sticking with 2 or maybe 3 will keep it interesting, but still coordinated.
