Despite the complexity and duration of the job, and some related cost over runs, overall Jon and his crew were always extremely attentive and eager to ensure that the job was done as we would like. We had previously worked with Doylestown Builders on remodeling our family room including adding custom wainscoting and installing a copper roofed-bay window and we were very pleased with the craftmanship and attention to detail. This actually made comparing their estimate with the other two lower estimates more difficult but it gave us a much better idea of the costs and possible contingency cost. As the contract was being created, we spent a couple of hours on the phone going over all the categories and subcategories of work along with a timeline of what to have ordered and ready by when (like, when to get that range delivered). > > As the work progressed, the details in the categories and subcategories in the contract made the change orders much more understandable. So when we got to ripping up the multiple layers of old flooring, or replacing the back door, or the plumbing or updating the electrical, we knew there would be a range depending on how complicated or unforeseen the circumstances. > Even at the initial meeting, the contractor had a detailed list and checked things off, adding his notes. > > So when we were comparing the contracts, we couldn’t just look at the numbers. Doylestown’s bid was higher, but including more detail. Although we got anxious about the change orders, the final cost was within a few percentage points of the original contract. And they communicated very well up and down the line, with us and with their office. > > In addition, we are not sure we would have made it though the process given all the problems we had with the cabinet company and the countertops, had it not been for the Doylestown crew. They had some challenges – retrofitting the cabinets for our industrial sink, customizing a pantry, and nothing was ever a problem, it was “let’s think of a way to make this work.” > Their steady hand, good nature, high aesthetic, and ability to reframe problems as a solution waiting to happen. They made what is – let’s face it – a very disruptive process manageable. The salesperson recommended that we wait until February 2015, as there was going to be a new kitchen line. In February we contacted the kitchen design company that Ikea works with (Traemand) They came one day and in a 4 hour session helped us design our new kitchen. The next step was to order the kitchen components at our local Ikea. Traemand connects you to a local contractor, our contractor was Doylestown Builders. Construction started when all our kitchen cabinets and other components were scheduled for delivery. Our contractor, Doylestown Builders and the construction foreman, Alan, were fantastic! Alan and Doylestown Builders were always extremely professional and competent! Alan always thoroughly cleaned the area each day – kept in contact with us as to what would be completed each day and if there were any issues. IN the end start to finish the job took about 5 weeks – We did have an issue receiving all the cabinet doors that were ordered – Ikea was having trouble keeping up with demand for the new kitchen – but when the last doors did arrive Alan and Doylestown Builders were right there –installing the doors! I, wholeheartedly, recommend Doylestown Builders!
