**Q: Do expensive architects do a better job?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I have 3 quotes and three VERY different proposals. I am wondering what opinion is on the important factors of hiring an architect and if paying more gets more.... Thank you.

A: I used to work for a residential designer's company and we had few architects coming in as our clients to design their personal residences. On the question "why dont you do it yourseft?" they would say "I dont do this every day." 
You are best at what you specialize on. Most architecs are after commercial jobs where city requires work to be licensed therefore they dont do residential as often as residential designers. So I agree with the comments above both options has to be checked for their references. Good luck

**Q: price difference between 7ft tall and 8ft tall window and doors?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

my ceiling hieght is 9ft to 10ft.  iknow 7ft tall windows and doors may seem small.  so 8ft is wat im thinking.  but is it ALOT more expensive for the 8ft window and doors?  wats the price difference? and for the 9ft ceilings, would it be appropriate for 8ft doors and windows, or would 7ft doors and windows be okay too? which makes more sense?  would u pay more for a house that had 8ft doors and windows throughout the house? if so, how much more?  thaaaankkks!

A: I like the Idea of wider overhangs, but make sure you keep in mind when we talk about 8ft doors and windows in 9 ft walls that your overhang will cover upper part of window, making it impossible to box the eaves. So if you still want to go this route, think of using raised heel truss.
