My husband is dead set against doing wallpaper, (although I’ve seen some fabulous options out there), so I’m sticking to paint and tile for this project. The second picture is of mirror and wall sconces I’m planning to use. I would like the space to feel a bit decadent. I’m thinking brushed gold faucet to continue with the gold theme. This room is on the first floor and will primarily be used by guests. I’m still on the fence about just painting the walls or continue with the half wall tiled option. For option two I’m considering using BM Wenge, a warm deep brown, for the paint portion but wonder if it will close the space in too much. And so do my kids and husband so i should just let that be enough. Alas… Of the 25-30 friends who have come over with the specific intention of seeing my new kitchen, about 90% have not said anything complimentary about the kitchen. I get lots of ”oh wow! you guys must be so happy to have a kitchen again!” or ”Do you like it?” Some just dont say anything. Maybe some might compliment my stove (she’s gorgeous) or the backsplash (it is a work of art, esp up close) but only 4 people have actually said they think its beautiful. And interestingly, those 4 friends absolutely GUSHED over it and said it should be in magazines! Ha! My husband wishes I didnt care what others think. And so do I!!! This is sooo silly!! But when you put this much money into your house, you want to feel like you’ve appreciated the value of your home. And based on the majority of the reactions Ive gotten, I’m not sure we did. (not that we plan to sell…but still) So my request from this community is constructive feedback. Please tell me if there are any changes I could make that would be relatively inexpensive that might make the kitchen appeal to more people. For example, I can’t do anything about the cabinets, but I could change the hardware. I cant change the counters, but i could swap out decor (easily!) and lighting fixtures. I really do want honest feedback, but do please be gentle — I’m feeling like an insecure teenage girl here! A: Dear Emily, At the end of the day if you love the kitchen that’s what matters. Now this is what I love about your kitchen: The counter top on the island is absolutely stunning. Appliances look great especially that stove. Range hood design is nice The kitchen you have is unique and the kitchen brings value. Off the bat you can tell there was a lot of thought and hard work behind it. now hypothetically if I purchase a home with the same kitchen will i do some changes yes i will. The issue i see and again people have different taste is the contrast if the colors. This is what i would do: Change all the counter tops to match the island counter top. 2.Change the kitchen cabinets Handles to gold to match the gas range. Paint all the cabinets the same color. I've heard painting cherry wood requires using certain prep methods. My question is, do I paint? If so, what color? I'm thinking a creamy white or a light blue/gray. A: Also paint that window trim to white. **Q: Countertops installed--love them, but have an issue.** *(in Kitchens)* My Corian Sea Salt countertops were installed yesterday. I was so nervous about how they would actually look in place as I was working from a very small sample. But I absolutely love them and am very happy with my choice. The only problem is the corner radius. When the template guy was here I specifically said I didn't want rounded corners and to make them as square as possible. Well, they arrived rounded. I don't know what the radius is, nor did the installer--he guessed 3/4". He told me this is standard and there was not much they could do now. Because these countertops have been delayed due to a variety of issues, our remodel has been significantly held up. So I thought I would live with it. However I keep looking at it and wondering if they could come back out and cut the corners on-site. My biggest issue is the way it looks on the built out hutch cabinet. Any opinions? This has been so stressful (we've been living in the basement since September), and I hesitate to start any new battles, but I don't want have big regrets down the road.
