Since 1955, this family owned company has been at the cutting edge of landscape design and construction, transforming thousands of Ottawa area yards into breath taking works of art. In 1963 we started our own growing nursery to supply our landscape operations.  Due to a growing curiosity of local visitors, we felt compelled to open our nursery to the public. Company founders Mr. and Mrs. H.J. Schmitz and 4 children presided over the company from 1955 until its 50th anniversary in 2005. Since then Eva Schmitz (president) and Eckhart Schmitz (C.E.O.) have assumed leadership of the company.  Also crucial to our organization is our general Manager Mossy (Mostafa  Fallah). We gratefully acknowledge our dedicated staff for their enduring excellent service over many years.  Several have been with us for over 25 years.  

Our purpose is to educate home gardeners to produce long lasting beautiful gardens for their pleasure and enjoyment, whether the space is large or small.  This process incorporates functional and creative elements such as walks, patios, pools, ponds ect.  As in the past, we hope to continue in the educational process, which will provide you with new and stunning possibilities.

Our hours of operation for August 1st - November 31st are as follows:

> Artistic Landscape Design is a family owned business operating for more than 50 years.  I had the opportunity to work with one of their landscape architects in a review of my landscaping requirements.  I was able to have them transform my yard from rough patch of grass up to the pool, into a professional hardscaped and landscaped home.  The work was divided into three major efforts over a series of years.  It has made my home backyard an extension of our living space, and our front yard a welcoming garden with the grass replaced by flora.  All the scheduled work was completed on time with great attention to detail.  Upon review of the area near the pool to have an interlocking patio, it was determined that there would be too much rain and snow to allow proper drainage.  At that time, onsite on the first day, a decision was made to install a French drain 4’ x 4’ x6’, connected 12 feet from the downspout.  The work was professionally completed without impacting the schedule, and at no additional cost to my estimate. There was never any hesitation to work the design over several years, as I was always able to work with the same landscape architect.  I never had to worry about permits, schedule, or damage to my property.  In fact with the third effort, another patio and bed at the end of the pool, the company put down plywood across my driveway and existing patio to ensure the small frame equipment would not do any damage. Not only does the company do professional design, their landscape centre has a massive perennial garden, and the teams working at the sites are not seasonal workers.
