## Selected projects

- [Hachi House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/hachi-house-pj-vj~2271610)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 11
 - Description: Hachi is a build-it-yourself playhouse that promotes imagination through infinite possible forms, allowing children to mould their own adventure. The fat plush fabric upholstered and velcro noodle can be wrapped, laid or twisted into almost any shape. The concept is that a child can set about experiencing what it is to be a bee, an astronaut, a penguin or an architect through creating their very own playhouse! A child’s imagination is limitless, Hachi provides a safe, fun and creative building m…
- [Bento Box Loft](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/bento-box-loft-pj-vj~1584720)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 11
 - Description: A Japanese family asked Koko to reinvent how to fit the needs of a growing family into their tall Noho Loft. The resulting "Bento Box" loft finds living space vertically, while capturing the feeling of contemporary Japan. Hidden storage takes up nearly half of the 1400 sf. space, freeing the rest for a simple lifestyle.
- [Dangle Byrd House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/dangle-byrd-house-pj-vj~1584666)
 - Location: Caln, PA
 - Photos: 17
 - Description: The Dangle-Byrd house was envisioned as a modern country retreat set on a wooded five-acre site in rural Pennsylvania. The house is anchored by a massive stone chimney hand set in the tradition of the best Pennsylvania farmhouses. This permanence is contrasted by the dramatic floating glass walls of the living room. Severe in form, the materiality of the house allows it to become part of the surrounding landscape. The house consists of three interlocking volumes. While each volume is very simple…
- [Cookie Magazine](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/cookie-magazine-pj-vj~1584810)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 7
 - Description: Frequently designs for children’s first bedrooms overemphasize the visual sense at the expense of the less obvious senses. Ironically, a newborn’s sense of touch, sound, smell, and taste are often much more developed than their visual abilities. The Cookie Living Showhouse provides the unusual opportunity to magically “step into” a page of Cookie Magazine. Many of the elements might not be fully experienced if only seen in a photograph. The sounds of the wooden ball play and the soft felt rug cr…
- [Imaginasium, C.A.S. Early Childhood Center](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/imaginasium-c-a-s-early-childhood-center-pj-vj~1726001)
 - Location: New York, NY
 - Photos: 7
 - Description: The Existing Early Childhood Curriculum called for two classrooms, one gym, and one music room. However, the trustees saw the project as an opportunity to create a new concept within the structure of the existing curriculum. The Imaginasium was to be one part playground, one part museum, one part classroom. The invented word was coined to treat the space as a prototype. The goal was not only to create a safe space for active play in an urban environment, but as importantly to create a space that…
- [Scandinavia House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/scandinavia-house-pj-vj~1707877)
 - Location: New York, NY
 - Photos: 9
 - Description: The American Scandinavia Foundation commissioned Koko to create a unique learning space in their New York City Headquarters in the Scandinavia House. Awarded by New York Magazine: “BEST OF NEW YORK” as the best indoor play space for children in New York City. The Center was designed to incorporate teh best of Scandinavian design while emphasizing early childhood sensory perception.
- [Katoh Loft](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/katoh-loft-pj-vj~1589289)

- [Cass Gilbert Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/cass-gilbert-residence-pj-vj~1600153)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 10
 - Description: The sole full floor loft in the Cass Gilbert, Salomon J. Manne’s fur building on West 30th Street, this 3800 square foot residence has 360 degree views of the entire city, with full terraces running along both the north and south sides of the building. The owner was looking for a home to house his extensive 1940’s Italian furniture and contemporary art collection. Custom pony and patchwork hides cover the floors, while cashmere wall coverings adorn the bedroom, an homage to the history of the ne…
- [Greenstein Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/greenstein-residence-pj-vj~1595109)
 - Location: New York, NY
 - Photos: 16
 - Description: Koko was tapped to transform a classic upper east side apartment into a light filled Scandinavian interior. The furniture and art collection are reflected in the tactile and calm surfaces of the walls and floors. Hidden doorways enable the apartment to reshape from a traditional sequence of rooms, to an open flowing space.
- [C.A.S. Playground](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/c-a-s-playground-pj-vj~1726265)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 8
 - Description: Koko approached the playground as an urban design project, and chose to address not only the equipment, but also the courtyard as a whole. A parade of life-sized animal silhouettes marches around the walls of the play area, starting with a duck and progressing in height to an elephant. Child-scaled storefronts and a water-tower playhouse provide dramatic play features, and a mini racetrack allows for tricycle races through the courtyard.
- [Baxter Penthouse](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/baxter-penthouse-pj-vj~1589106)
 - Location: New York, NY
 - Photos: 15
 - Description: The existing historic NoHo loft had all of the right elements…in the wrong places. By rearranging the elements, the space of the loft has been rediscovered. The former bulkhead is now filled with an oversized opaque skylight. The kitchen cabinets and fireplace become components of one long storage wall covered in driftwood blue veneer. The custom raw steel staircase with walnut treads, begins with a single limestone step at its base. The bulkhead has been re-imagined as a glass observatory compl…
- [West Village Nursery](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/west-village-nursery-pj-vj~1728553)
 - Location: New York, NY

- [Empire State Loft](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/empire-state-loft-pj-vj~1588797)
 - Location: New York, NY
 - Photos: 21
 - Description: Under the shadow of the Empire State Building, the existing Penthouse had been cut up into recording studios in the 1980’s. Windows had been filled in with glass block, and the hot tub and sauna filled up the living room. The rooftop extension had been used as an apartment for sublet, and the rooms were dark and musty. Interior demolition alone was not enough to transform the loft, its use had to be re-thought entirely. Rather than fill the loft with a typical residential program of bedrooms and…
- [Ellis Loft](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/ellis-loft-pj-vj~1589245)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 14
 - Description: The existing shell was a poorly thought-out developer special, with a long living space extending over 80 feet on the southern exposure. Since our client didn’t bowl… he made us rethink the ways to define the residence through design, furniture, and art installations. We were able to introduce American walnut floors throughout, as well as extensive custom millwork to delineate the zones of the awkward plan. After some negotiations with the coop board, we were able to annex the unused hallway and…

- [Guest Residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/guest-residence-pj-vj~1600222)
 - Location: New York, NY
 - Photos: 8
 - Description: Overlooking Saint Patrick's Cathedral the design for this Fifth Avenue Apartment focuses the attention to the quintessential New York City Backdrop. The interior contrasts the excitement of the surrounding cityscape with a serene calmness. The use of floating planes and custom furnishings further enhance the walls formed by the surrounding buildings. LED lighting provides a subtle glow, reflecting the clients interests in energy efficient and "green" design solutions.
- [Silverman residence](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/silverman-residence-pj-vj~1600048)
 - Location: Not specified
 - Photos: 8
 - Description: The unusual program involved a Los Angeles Based Television Producer who wanted to create a pied de terre for himself, which also would work as a permanent home for his Mother, also in the TV business. The resulting apartment had many televisions, despite the Central Park Views. The design required balancing the divergent tastes and lifestyles.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Purchase** *(in Photo Questions)*

Where can I buy this?

A: Unfortunately we are still in the prototype stage for the product so it is not readily available for purchase.
We won the Houzz Competition a couple of months ago, and had one prototype fabricated and donated the pieces to a charitable organization to benefit children. You can view images of the completed prototype on our website: www.kokoarch.com/work/projects/hachi-house/

We are discussing production with various furniture manufacturers, and we will let you know as our plans develop.
Thank you for your interest in our Hachi House! We are also very excited about our future production to the general public.

**Q: Simply lovely!** *(in Photo Questions)*

Lovely room! Can you tell me where you got this beautiful rug? Great taste! Thank you.

A: Thank you, hobokenhouse. The rug is a custom piece of our own design, with more information available on our website; http://kokoarch.com/work/projects/leftovers-rug/

Evi

A: Thank you, Evi.
The shelves and coat rack are both custom pieces we designed and had fabricated for this project. The ball pit and rug are also custom Koko pieces. If you're interested you can read a little more about the project here on our website; http://kokoarch.com/work/projects/cookie-magazine-showhouse/
Good luck decorating your son's bedroom!

**Q: Where is the couch from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

The couch looks perfect for a family room. Deep and wide.

A: B&B Italia...I believe they discontinued this particular model. But they have many with similar proportions.
