The Closet Doctor **Q: Closet storage solutions and closet covering ideas needed please** *(in Design Dilemma)* Here is my daughters closet. I would love some ideas to better organize it. I was also wondering whether I should put up some white curtains instead of a closet door. Here's the rest of the room so you can get an idea of the style A: Ranmarie, if you want to incorporate the mirror into the closet, your best bet may be to have a custom closet design put together for you for when you down the road have a bit in the budget to do the closet. Also you may want to use curtains as that will give you better access to the closet, sliding doors will not be a good option for a closet like this, regular swing open doors would work, but will again call for more space in the room. A good closet designer will be able to put together a design that maximizes the space while still incorporating a spot for the mirror, and also leaving it as an option to convert the mirror space into a hanging space down the road if you one day don't have that mirror in there. **Q: where is it from?** *(in Photo Questions)* what is the material made of on this garage floor. Builder saying he doesn't want to put my trim tile in here. :/** *(in Design Dilemma)* What do I do here with this back splash under the cabinets? My builder is really tying me in knots. They installed the back splash and there is about half an inch of open mastic/grout between the top of the tiles and the bottom of the cabinets. There is the matching pencil trim installed under the microwave area (you can see if you are able to zoom in on second picture) and the fridge area as well as the window ledge (not shown). The builder did not use the trim pieces we had provided him when installing this. Now he says that since it is filled in with mastic/grout that adding it now will look strange sticking out so far. He wants us to use some kind of wood trim hanging off the bottom of the cabinet to cover this open grout area. Tomorrow morning my husband is having a meeting with the builder about this. What do we do about this at this point? I feel like we paid him to do a job and do it right, but now that it is where it is, I have no idea what to do now. It's a small town and a bit of a sticky situation, so it's not like I can tell him to DO THIS or I'M NOT PAYING YOU. How can I go about this with grace and make it look right, or at least look GOOD.?? A: I'm not a tile contractor nor do I play one on TV, but i will add my .02 to this. The first question I have is, what was specified before the job was started, preferably in the contract? Second, its not about whats easiest for the contractor. The easiest thing would be you just pay me money and I don't do any work but thats not how ot works. I would have a conversation with the contractor and tell him your not happy with the finished product and tell him how you would like to see it completed. Be nice and friendly but be firm that your not happy with it. if he offer a solution that you can live with accept that.
