The project was complex, requiring some entirely new building and a sympathetic renovation of the existing property. The Project was completed on time and on budget and to this day we marvel at the excellence of the quality of the finished property. Aside from the sheer quality, we found that having a local architect meant we could meet at a days' notice on site (a huge difference from NYC based architects). In addition, Ian's long established relationships with the local trades/firms keep the project moving along on time. For Eastern Long Island projects with a fixed budget and time frame its hard to argue against the combination of skills provided. **★★★★★ — Patricia Giles, May 2019** > It was a daunting task to build a guest house on our property at Shelter Island, but Ian McDonald made it fun! > As we wished, Ian made the cottage to look like the main house. He has a deep knowledge of architectural styles and techniques, both modern and historical, as well as of construction materials, supplies and methods. He is a stickler for detail and made sure that the plans were executed properly. He has a great eye and a creative and elegant approach to his work. He is also a good guy to work with; I enjoyed the process, which is not always the case for many people. Interior is open plan using traditional trim details. Ian listened closely to our ideas, suggested enhancements, and tactfully steered us back on track when we sometimes were overwhelmed by the choices and decisions. The result is a 21st century home with all the charm and honest, authentic materials and details of a home built a hundred years ago. It incorporates all of our ideas along with some wonderful suggestions that Ian made. Every detail mattered to him, and he was always available, open, and responsive when we had questions or concerns. He was always available during the construction phase and worked closely with the builder to ensure a wonderful outcome. A most positive experience.
