What tile color did you use? A: Hi mschmie, the backsplash tile is from Daltile, is 2x4 with a bevel on al four sides, in a color called "Wooden Grey". Thanks for your question. **Q: White cabinets the same color white that will be on the walls?** *(in Paint)* Hi there! We are painting the interior of our home and the walls and the kitchen cabinets will be white. My question is...do I paint them the same color white? Or should cabinets be a brighter white? Also, any suggestions for a good true white? We live on the water with lots of windows and we have dark wood flooring. I know so much white sounds bland, but it really works with this space, especially with pops of color with artwork on the walls throughout. Thank you SO much for any advice given!! A: In short, I'd agree with just a tone or two different for the walls than the cabinets--the space will still read well with added subtleties of color in a monochromatic scheme as light changes in the rooms during the daylight and night time hours. **Q: Help with bathroom layout** *(in Design Dilemma)* Hi! I am finally attempting to remodel the only full bath in my home. It is the original bathroom built in 1929. We would like to have a separate tub with a decent size shower as we age. I still like to take a soak on occasion. Dimensions are 8x10 with the toilet located on the longest wall. I was told that we cannot move the toilet even though we're are ripping the floor out...tile is set in concrete. I am trying to avoid having to give up the bedroom closet which is located behind the tub .This would add approx 4 more ft, and more $. Toilet is across from the door, not ideal...I know. There was s a bump out next to the sink which is where the plumbing is located Which will square off that corner. Access is in the bedroom closet. Is there a way to make this fit without moving the dang toilet? Attaching photos...not sure it will help.( Warning...it is a hot mess) Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! A: Hi Idok2017, just a quick sketch of a tight floor plan that might work. I'd suggest entry to the tub is through a new shower--perhaps a 1/2 wall solid and 1/2 wall glass as the enclosure--so as not to block too much light. Add vertical grab bars at the shower entry and horizontal grab bar/towel bar inside the shower--perhaps a few at the bath enclosure as well. Tile, mosaic floor, and accent shampoo niches can help lighten things. A vanity cabinet with side drawers might work perpendicular to the original--with extra countertop extended to the window. Just a quick design suggestion for your consideration. **Q: Would you recommend several skylights in new build mountain cabin?** *(in Building a Home)* We're in the design phase of our 1500 sqft get away cabin, single level 2bd/2ba, in the mountains at about 5500 elevation, so there's moderate snowfall and rain. We are designing to be in a cleared area amongst the pine trees, so some trees are within a 4 foot radius from eventual footings. Goal is to create a very rustic, warm, cozy and woodsy interior with lots of wood and earthy charming character. Would skylights in kitchen, eating area, great room and master bedroom be a good idea ambience wise? Too many? How big? What kind? Good climate for skylights? Cabin will face N, great room faces S, kitchen E, master bedroom/bath on W side. Thank you in advance! Solatubes are wonderful...but I'm a fan of a skylight, if you hadn't guessed...! **Q: Kitchen Design Help** *(in Design Dilemma)* I'd like to redo my kitchen, but am stuck on what to do. I'd like a larger kitchen, possibly extending into the small dining space next to it. Thoughts? Previous owners purchased the counter top. I'm not a fan of the cabinets, or color. A: Yes, good start with the photos--just a note: you might want to include a picture of the refrigerator wall to get a more complete picture of the space, and as noted above, some basic dimensions of the space from wall to wall; ceiling height would be helpful too. Thanks damiarain. Houzz to the rescue! **Q: FRIDGE DESIGN -- VS --FRIDGE SPACE, thanks, really appreciate votes** *(in Polls)* Hi, looking to see what most people prefer in a Fridge. Options are; 1, French double door with 26.5 cbft-- or -- 2, Single door with 25 cbft both are bottom freezers A: Hi 320melrosehouse, here are a few considerations for you: Opening a french door uses less space directly in front of the refrigerator (aisle or circulation space) than a single door unit; (a counter depth refrigerator does this as well--and some are 20+ cubic feet of storage). Some french door units allow access to interior drawers only when both doors are open; some single door units are similar in this aspect. Some have a see through door-in-door access, which seems handy as well. I have an exterior refrigerator drawer (I love it) on my USA-made refrigerator and only need to open one of the french doors to access interior drawers. Consider "landing space" for groceries or items removed when in use: a french door can do well opposite an island, while a single door refrigerator works well with landing space on either side. Always take care when placing a refrigerator at the end of a run of cabinets or in a corner as the door needs clearance to open beyond 90 degrees, including the door handle.
