My wife and I went to literally 5 different local flooring stores looking for a prefinished Rift and Quartered wide plank floor. With no results we turned to the internet and Heidelberg was one of 4 companies we spoke to about this floor. They were not the most expensive and not the cheapest, but we choose them because after that first conversation, I could tell they actually cared about their products. After receiving samples that were almost identical to a company that was twice the price, the decision was easy. 6 weeks later we received our floor. This review is coming 4 months after installation and I have to say that the upgraded finish he recommended has lived up to the hype. We originally asked for an oil finish, but after speaking with him and getting a better understanding of the maintenance of the oil finish, we went with their commercial grade urethane finish that is really easy to maintain. The owner answers the phone, talks to you about the products and invests some time telling you about the different floors. That is when he has time and when he feels like talking to you. We got some samples, asked for some more, eventually we decided to proceed with the order having explained our time constraints due to an upcoming move to our new house that we were buying floors for. > > It became progressively more difficult to get the owner on the phone or to reply to our emails and messages, resulting in continuous delays in getting samples shipped and received. The whole thing went south when two weeks after wasting our time waiting for things, he told us to buy something else cause the product might not be to our liking! > We delayed our installation schedule, other crews lined up to do more work after the floor was here, and our final move in date twice to be left hanging without a product! Which by the way we found out in the end was actually made in China and not at the company's site in IN! > > Bottom line: If you feel adventurous with the outcome of your investment and enjoy being ignored for days and bounced to voicemail leaving messages that do not get returned, and are comfortable with ordering products of questionable origin and final look, then by all means give them a shot! > > Response to the reply below: > Well, not so fast, and certainly not that "sincerely" Mr. President. Do your research, there are also complaints from customers that eventually got their floor but months later, and granted, they are not regarding the product as much as they are for customer service, which IS what my comment was about. Now to set the record straight, I will let whoever wants to read all our communications below (see pictures) decide for themselves what actually took place and who was rude and unresponsive. Pay attention to the days that messages were sent to see if, when, and how we communicated throughout this ordeal. > And on to some more common sense: Customers can be as reluctant, skeptical, budget sensitive and time limited as they want, the decision to buy or not is still theirs to make! Nobody spends this kind of money without looking for the right option, and nobody that does renovations has all the time in the world to wait for anyone else's social life to allow for them to do their job. Ignoring calls, misleading people that this "could happen by Friday" and then disappearing on them and leading them on until you pull the plug on them with a lame excuse is simply irresponsible and the definition of bad customer service, AKA: bad business practice. And if someone forgets to write their name one out of the 3 times on the same form, normally calls for a phone call to have them add it. And then there is that whole "we get this floor from China" that only came up on our last phone call, but that detail is nowhere to be found on the web site... The disappointment is all mine, but luckily not the mistake of actually buying. > Read the texts. It's ironic that any negative reviews I see on the web are from customers that didn't get a floor from us. I spent over 7 hours speaking to him about his project to get him the best product available in his budget and time frame and even communicated over the Thanksgiving holiday to try to help. Here's the details if you care to read on: > > He wanted a floor within a week and that's not enough time for our company to make a custom prefinished floor in the specific color he wanted and he also didn't have the budget for that type of floor, Therefore we sent him samples of some alternate products that were available immediately that we know are quality options from our partner mills that not only fit his strict requests of a No VOC Oil Finish, but also fit his budget of $6.00 SF. After sending multiple samples of quick ship options he did settle on a particular item but said it was not 100% of what he wanted. After I communicated with him on Thanksgiving Day, that Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and had the warehouse open boxes of the floor to provide more pictures for him, he reluctantly decided to go with the product. He demanded that we ship the product on Monday but he could not provide payment. He said if it didn't ship he would go with an alternate product. I advised that he should go with an alternate product. On Tuesday, he came up with 2 different credit cards and one of them didn't even have a Cardholder name. He also said that if it didn't ship immediately Tuesday morning, then he would go with the alternate product.
