**Q: “Bead board”** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you give some description on the bead board? Thank you!

A: It's just 5/16" bats glued to dry wall to look like paneling.

**Q: Basket Weave Tile (continued)** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Does this look like a poor installation of basket weave tile? I can see the individual 12 inch tile squares.

A: Yes, that's a do over. Did a licensed contractor do that for you?

**Q: Resurfacing deck questions** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I'm replacing the wood surface with trex on my deck, and I have a couple questions. 

1: should I power wash the sub structure before I put down the trex?

2: should I be very concerned about the joists that split at the ends? Do I need to do anything with them? Or just leave them be?

A: Hi Jason, it wouldn't hurt to power wash although its probably not necessary. If you do then let it dry out afterwards and treat the tops of the joists with copper green. The tops are the first thing that goes and brushing on some copper green is an easy step.

If you have a rotted joist then you should chop it out and replace.  The splitting tops at the ends of the joists are not a big deal however you should make sure that there is a Simpson connector at each each location where two members meet.  To connect a 2x8 joist to a ledger or a rim use a LSU28 or an L70. Make sure you get your connectors in Zmaz or they'll rot.
