> My new cabinets are beautiful. Every time someone new comes to my home, they are amazed at what a change they have made. Working with Tallahassee Kitchen Center was a great experience. They helped me sift through all my ideas and the many styles to get the perfect cabinet. Their design service is amazing. They paid attention to detail, and were willing to make suggestions and make changes as needed. They had a great working relationship with the other subcontractors and managed overlapping work really well.

> Tallahassee Kitchen Center were amazing to work with. During the design process Katie made sure to address all the different options we had and made sure that we picked what we liked. I was very particular about the look and detail I was going for and Katie did an awesome job making sure to incorporate those desires into the design.

> Paul did an excellent job with installation. Our floors and ceilings are far from square and straight. After Paul’s installation you’d never know. After installation we noticed one small error with a cabinet above the refrigerator. The gap between the fridge and cabinet was bigger than we wanted. This was a purely aesthetic issue, the cabinet functioned fine. When we brought up the issue to Katie they ordered a whole new cabinet properly fill the void, at their cost. With as many details and decisions that go into designing a kitchen, small errors are bound to happen. TKC’s efforts and extra attention to making everything perfect and ensuring their customer satisfaction make sure we will use them for our next kitchen remodel!

> From our first meeting with Susan and the entire staff at Tallahassee Kitchen Center, we knew we had picked the best design team to transform our condo's kitchen. And transform it they did! When you first meet with the team they spend quality time with the client to find out how you use your kitchen, thus tailoring the design to the client's individual needs. Their primary concern is the happiness of the client. The whole process was so creative and actually extremely pleasant. Professional, thorough and experienced, Tallahassee Kitchen Center is the center of kitchen design. Not only did we get a gorgeous and functional kitchen, but we made the greatest of friends in the Grabowskis. ~ Robert A. Stuart and Dr. Thomas L. Hicks

> We did a large interior remodel including kitchen, bar and entertainment areas. From the design to the installation, TKC was a pleasure to work with and the final product is flawless. I highly recommend TKC.

> We can't sing Katie and Paul's praises enough. Michele worked closely with Katie on the design of our new cabinetry, which is not only beautiful but also exceptionally functional. The installation, which Paul oversaw, was almost flawless. There are few businesses we'd recommend without hesitation or qualification, but TKC is one.

> We recently enlisted the help of Katie Grabowski in updating our kitchen. This was our first kitchen renovation in 30 years of marriage and three houses, and Katie kept it from being a daunting prospect. In our meetings, she presented various options and answered all our questions, but took care not to overwhelm us. We could not be happier with the results and would definitely recommend Katie to anyone considering a kitchen renovation.

> Working with The Kitchen Center to remodel our kitchen was a pleasure. Staff was incredibly patient and helpful in guiding the design decisions throughout the process. We could not be more pleased with the result.

> Excellent family owned and operated company that designed, sold and installed all new kitchen (including large island) cabinets in 2013 and did the same for our guest bathroom in July 2015. Their design solutions and quality of work are outstanding as both projects far surpassed our expectations and would showcase well in any national publication.

> The Tallahassee Kitchen Center did my kitchen renovation. Katie helped steer me though the process of selecting components for my new kitchen. When I needed professional design assistance, Katie made a recommendation to a designer that turned out to be the the perfect person for this job. Next Katie assisted with making recommendations for a few contractors to bid on my project and helped me get the right contractor at the right price. Paul installed my cabinets and was meticulous and professional. Katie also helped me find local suppliers for appliances, sink and countertops. They followed up to make sure I was pleased and offered to come make adjustments as things sometimes settle. I love my new kitchen and would highly recommend the Tallahassee Kitchen Center!!!!

> The kitchen in our 1937 house was completely remodled by Tallahassee Kitchen Center. There really are not enough superlatives to describe the quality of the work done by all the members of the Center. Katie was patient and professional in helping us find just the right cabinets and design. We have said many times that they came out and measured and re-measured to make sure everything fit perfectly. And it does!!!! We are so glad we picked the Center to work with us. We have recommended them to our friends and neighbors and highly recommend them to anyone without reservation. If someone wants high quality service and an excellent outcome go to the Tallahassee Kitchen Center. John and Meg Paschal

> I highly recommend Tallahassee Kitchen Center. We hired this company for a kitchen remodel. Our experience was positive from beginning to end. The designer was very knowledgable in a all products available, and very knowledgable in the "modern/contemporary" design we were looking for. She pointed out many ideas, that we had forgotten or not thought of that truly made this design perfect. The communication throughout the process was fantastic. The installer was very professional and very respectful to our home and to the fact that we were living in the house at the time. He was also very patient with the inconviences that a high rise condo offers.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Need cabinet installation advice** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hi,
We are installing new cabinets this weekend and need a little installation advice. We are installing a cabinet that will sit directly on the granite, so we will need to wait to install that cabinet after the installation of the granite. How can we be sure that we are installing all of the cabinets at the correct height without the granite in place? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

A: Could you share some more information with us so we can get a better idea of how to help? Have you already ordered cabinets, and if so how did you determine the cabinet height? Are the cabinets going to the ceiling like in the photo attached, and if so what size crown molding are you using? What specific part of the installation process are you curious about?

**Q: new kitchen cabinets question** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I love the look of off white perimeter cabinets with dark wood island. However, I am concerned about the painted cabinets not looking so good after a while. What do you all think about off white uppers with wood base cabinets? Will that be visually appealing or will it look off?

A: I love the look of the two-tone or "tuxedo" kitchens, where the upper cabinets are painted and the lower cabinet are stained wood.
It's become more popular in the last few years, in part because of homeowners having the same concerns that you are having.
All white kitchen are timeless, but they are not low maintenance. Every dent or scrape or smudge shows up immediately (some people think of this as an advantage because then they know where to clean).
Use the Houzz search bar and look for "tuxedo" or "two-tone" kitchens. You'll see lots of examples of beautiful kitchen incorporating two types of finishes.

**Q: "Green" countertop - hardworking. Lots of rolled cookies & crusts** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Wow, so many possibilities and nothing ideal or so it would seem when choosing a countertop. I am only wanting something very tough as I am not careful (all my mugs have their handles broken off oops) and nothing to add poisons to my many rolled sugar cookies and pie crusts (I often burn them and that may be bad enough without toxins too). I want it to be lovely in case I actually clear all dishes, cereal boxes and fruit bowl away. Is it all too much to ask? Help me houzzers, you're my only hope.

A: Have you looked into solid surface products like Corian? It's a lot softer than Granite or Quartz, so it is less likely to break your dishes if you drop them. It's very hygienic, and is used very often in hospitals and high-traffic areas. There hasn't been a lot of love for products like Corian in the media in the last 5 years or so, but when it comes to practicality, it can be a good match. I have Corian in my bathroom because the sinks are fully integrated, and it's easy to clean.

Here is Rain Cloud by Corian:
https://www.houzz.com/discussions/corian-rain-cloud-dsvw-vd~825919

I'm also a fan of Quartz, and have it in my own kitchen. The seams tend to be very tightly done, and it is not porous like Granite. However, I have broken a bottle by being very clumsy and placing it on the countertop with too much energy! That is considered user error - but would have been less likely to happen with a softer product.

**Q: Replacing granite countertop with existing cabinets sitting on top** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I would really appreciate some help with trying to figure out how I replace my ugly granite countertops with an appliance garage sitting on top of it. I also have another cabinet sitting on top. I posted another question concerning this but I need help from someone that knows if I need to remove the cabinets and appliance garage. If I do...how complicated is that. My appliance garage seems to be somewhat attached to the upper cabinet and not sure it can come out without taking out the cabinets on either side also. The glass cabinet would also need to be taken out. Did anyone ever just have the men slide out the old granite and slide in the new one? Were your cabinets damaged? Thanks!

A: I agree with Carol, those two cabinets will need to be uninstalled in order to replace the granite. At least one cabinet around the corner wall cabinet will also likely need to be uninstalled to free up space for the corner to be removed. I don't think that any carpenter or counter top fabricator will guarantee that nothing will be damaged in the process. Make sure you ask anyone you hire what you can expect from the project, and what you can expect the end product to look like. Good luck!

**Q: Help, my taste in kitchen design is outdated! Newest trends please!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello, I have a 1903 house on Cap Hill in Seattle, selling next year and would like to update the kitchen. I will be doing a basic remodel, probably new cabinet faces, stainless appliances, new flooring, paint and back splashes. My dilemma is what color/style of cabinets to use, light or dark, flooring, paint, etc. I would like to appeal to the 20-30 somethings, (tech workers?) that are moving into our neighborhood and don't have a clue as to what is 'in' now. Thanks for any suggestions.

A: Although I can't speak for popular design details in Seattle, the NKBA has done national studies that are showing that people are moving toward transitional styles. In our area, we have been seeing a ton of white and grey painted cabinets with very simple door styles, stainless appliances, lots of interest in Quartz countertops, darker floors, and subway or glass tile backsplashes.
