It's new and in good condition and I do not want to replace it right now, but I don't like pink except as an accent color. My furniture is pretty neutral in muted greens. I am thinking if I got area rugs for the LR and DR (and get rid of the dark pinky-red accent wall shown in the photo shown with the previous owners furniture) that I could "neutralize" the pink carpet and live with it. I would be OK tying things together with a little of the pink in a patterned rug that has mostly greens and ivory. I like traditional designs, not modern. Does my idea sound like it will work to reduce the pink impact? A: Putting rugs on top of carpet can be a trip hazard. I agree about changing the wall color to a more neutral color. What is under the pink carpet? Wood that can be refinished? or concrete that can be stained? **Q: Need help with awkward shelf in front entry** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are renovating our main floor, and are trying to look for creative solutions to this problem. In the front entry, there is a shelf with awkward dimensions that we are trying to re-purpose. I'd love to have it work as storage in some way, maybe for shoes/hat/dog leash, ie. to house smaller things we need going out the door. To the left of it is a closet, directly to the right is the bathroom. The dimensions are: front 31 inches, the left wall is at a right angle to the front, 28.5 inches, the back is 8.5 inches,and the right wall comes at an angle at 33 inches. I hope the picture makes it clear. There is a light in the ceiling at the top. Any suggestions? (I am open to new ideas other than small storage!!) Thanks in advance! A: I like both ideas above. You could also add 2 -4 more shelves above and use a few baskets to store your stuff. **Q: Kitchen colors** *(in Design Dilemma)* I hate this floor and thinking about painting it. However, doing so will not be an option until I can get my toddler out of the house for a weekend. Other option is to paint the cabinets- which I can do at night easily... But what color?? A: If you do gray cabinets you still have black and white tile countertops. Painting the floor is asking for trouble. If you do another layer of vinyl over the existing, any recessed areas (grout lines) will show through. Do it right the first time, redos are 2X the cost. Tear up the old vinyl and install new. I think the vintage look you have is great. Unless you want to replace the countertops, I like the idea above to use black and white checkered. I'd do it on the diagonal. Then either leave your cabinets white or paint them a color. Either will look great! BTW I don't think you have a dishwasher. If you want to add one you could probably have a carpenter remove the base cabinet to the right of the sink, depending on its size. Good luck with your project. Please let us know what you decide and post "after" pictures! **Q: Single Bachelor Kitchen Colors! Help!** *(in Design Dilemma)* I'm a single 26 year old man and I just purchased my first house. I currently am in the process of remodeling the kitchen and am having trouble deciding on colors for the walls and floor. There are faux bricks on the walls which I have considered removing. Every person I have asked about them says that doing so would destroy the walls behind them and I would have to just tear down the walls which I want to avoid if possible. I was considering painting them an off-white and seeing how it turns out. I am currently finishing my first project of doing the cabinets an espresso color. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated! As you can see, to the left of the cabinets is more of the faux brick with a VERY ugly door to the garage. to the left of that is a plain wall where the fridge will be located. To the right of the cabinets is a dining area with more faux brick with a sliding door to the back yard patio. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated! A: Great color for the cabinets.
