Not only did the work turn out beautifully, but the communication and professionalism were simply unmatched. Trevor did a very thorough job quoting us on the project and helped us work through some of our financial concerns. The project manager, Brooks, was a joy to work with. He sequenced everything to work around school groups and general public visitation, and completed weekly progress reports to let us know where we were in the process. Yuseph and Evan were also fantastic to work with and did a stand out job. This is an update: In spring, 2024, the new shower began to leak a little into the basement, and the shower sill tile and grout started cracking. I contacted Highline, and they assured me that they would repair the damage and remedy the leaking. And that is exactly what they did, under the oversight of Jack Buckalew. It took several months, but they carefully diagnosed where the shower pan was leaking, causing the wood in the sill to expand and crack the tile. They removed all of the affected tile and wood (this was terrifying to see them do - our beautiful shower was beng deconstructed!). Then the entire pan was rebuilt and sealed, the sill replaced with construction foam, new tile installed with epoxy grout (thanks to Jordan Snell of Opulence Tile), and the shower doors replaced. Honestly, it is impossible to tell the original tile from the new tile. It looks brand new again. And it doesn't leak anymore. Considering that this house is about 100 years old, we are realistic about its quirks and problems. We chose them after consulting with architects and contractors, and canvasing friends and neighbors. Highline was often recommended. The project was long (11 months) and Covid suppy issues added to the expense, but Highline kept us fully informed and involved on issues (substandard original house construction), recommendations, and cost-reducing ideas and materials, with regular meetings and weekly and sometimes daily progress reports. The supervisors and construction crews were skilled, meticulous and reliable. The subcontractors were equally professional for the most part. Covid did put a strain on personnel and materials. Inevitable cost and timeline increases were anticipated, explained and mitigated when possible. The end result: A beautifully designed and executed renovation that added 350 square feet of space; rearrangement of rooms providing comfortable one-floor living; enlarged kitchen, bath and laundry; beautiful oak flooring, 27 high-efficiency windows; greatly improved infrastructure including wall integrity and insulation, foundation and joist reinforcement; and preservation of the vintage details and materials. It was a complete remodel of 1450 square feet that included a full new kitchen, 2 full bathrooms, removal of a wood burning fireplace and installation of a gas fireplace in a different location, and generally reconfiguring the whole layout of the space. Highline came recommended to us from our architect. Trevor and his team worked hard to get an accurate plan for the whole project at the start, and once the project started they were able to to stick very close to that plan. We were lucky to not encounter any major issues when they tore into the walls and we finished almost exactly on time and on budget. We found them to be easy to work with throughout the project, when we knew exactly what we wanted they found a way to make it happen and when we weren't so sure how we wanted to handle a particular detail they helped come up with a solution that worked for us. They were easy to communicate with throughout the project and very responsive to any concerns we had along the way. We lived downstairs during the renovation, and every worker was respectful of us living downstairs during the process. Our finished home is beautiful and just what we wanted. For example, they included cedar siding on our project while other contractors recommended Hardie to save money.
