We discussed with not one but two other architects who made plans and budgets but when the project went to bid estimates were 25% over budget from the start both times! At this point we called Neri Architects and Guido and Michi met with us, listened to our needs and wants, and heard what the budget was. They then came up with creative ways to use the original house and reuse materials to save significant money while exceeding our dreams for a forever house. Guido is a nice guy but totally low bid our job and then failed to fix everything he screwed up. His foeman was inexperienced and Guido was hardly on the job site- despite promising us that he would be there EVERYDAY. We've been in our house for over a year and he has failed to fix significant defects due to lack of oversight on the job. He did not have relationships with the contractors he hired and could not get then to show up, We ended up taking over the construction management just to get him out of our lives. The job was about 30% over budget and we have spent THOUSANDS of dollars fixing his mess. Despite vowing to fix some significant issues (not tying all the gutters into the sewer line, putting the wrong size gas line in for the pool resulting in digging up the enter side yard and having to replace the sprinkler system and gas line, not turning on the humidifiers which ruined our hardwood floors, forgetting to install the pump for the jacuzzi tub, terrible water pressure, forgotten to install the electric for the hard wired doorbell/camera system...the list goes on!) .
