## Community Q&A

**Q: Dining room help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Lighting

A: Good luck and Have fun :-)

**Q: Hi** *(in Product Questions)*

Where can I return it??

A: I bought a mason drill bit and will be using my Hammer drill. the drill bit is a 5/16th is that close enough to the 8mil metric size?

**Q: Great Room - Nook dilemma** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have a nook that measures 30'' x 72" next to the stone fireplace in our family room. We have been stumped by what to use it for ever since moving in years ago. Other than log storage which I'd prefer to stay away from, are there any ideas that could make that awkward nook seem planned and maybe even awesome?! Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

A: Maybe have an extended TV arm come out from that nook that allows for the TV to sway up down left right etc. Then bellow the TV arm build custom shelving like this.

**Q: Bathroom Vanity Backsplash Tiling Question** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Hello Houzzer's. We are installing a new backsplash in our guest bathroom which has a left side wall and back wall. Do I tile the back wall first or the side wall? I've read that I should probably measure to the middle of the back wall and work my way out, but that would mean that even the outside ends would have a cut and I just think the cuts would look better in the corner where I can hide them with decor or soap or something. Does anyone know the proper way to start the tile? Thanks for your help.

A: OH wow that looks fantastic! Nice work Daduran!!

**Q: Should we paint the pergola white?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My husband is not too happy with the color of the pergola-- he wants to paint it white, he says it stands out too much from the house, while I want to keep stained color so it is more rustic -- the front porch and planter is made of ipe and will just oiled to a darker red brown color. Should we wait on it and see if the color gets better after we oil the ipe? I have a feeling the stain will wear out later and it won't be too dark. I'm also suggesting pairing it a dark gray same color my front door -- what do you guys think?

A: Oh, just found this picture online. Its a very close image to your Pergola and what it would look like white without the flower boxes. Just to put it in perspective.

**Q: How do you add-on to a tower?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

3 story tower home, each floor is about 16x16, bottom floor is a walkout basement. was a weekend place for two and now it's a full-time home for 3! Need to add on, want to add two bedrooms, one bath and a large kitchen at a minimum. Any ideas? Want to stay in similar style and not ruin the tower feel....

A: Wow that home is fantastic! It appears to be self sufficient as well. Would it make sense to attempt to erect another tower next to it and have a balcony connecting them? It may costs a bit but with the desired rooms your creating you may have to make another building. 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and one kitchen right? What are you estimating for costs and additional square feet added?
